Dessert reception

Paige, on January 31, 2017 at 12:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

What are your thoughts on having only a couple of desserts for everyone to snack on instead of a full meal? What time would you hold a dessert reception? I heard do not have it around meal times but I am unaware of the traditional meal times.

A dessert reception would happen between 2-4 pm. Don't do it at any of the traditional lunch or dinner times.

and don't expect your reception to be a raging party. Nothing wrong with dessert receptions, but they aren't parties.

You can do a punch and cake reception late morning or mid afternoon but expect your guests to stay and hour or less.

2-4 would be perfect. But it won't be a pary, as Bemyguest said. People will say hello, congratulate you, have a piece of cake and leave.

I would recommend some deli platters in addition to dessert, but yes, don't hold the ceremony before 1pm and expect the reception to end by 5 at latest.
