Dessert plates

annakac, on October 24, 2018 at 10:35 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

So I would classify our wedding as semi-formal (definitely not black tie but definitely no jeans). We are doing a buffet because that's what the budget allowed and the plates/silverware are "included" (for an extra fee) in our buffet price. We are also having a dessert table that is not being catered by them (its all from a local bakery) - should I pay more to have dessert plates & silverware from the caterer or will it look fine if I get nice plastic silverware/dessert plates for the cupcakes & cookies? I just want to make sure it wouldn't throw off the vibe too much if I went with plastic for that.

Will you be having plastic silverware for your wedding?

Personally, I don't think anybody would mind plastic utensils and plates for the cupcakes and cookies. If it was one of those super elegant wedding cakes I'd say maybe not, but for cute cupcakes and cookies I think it's fine! Plus it's cheaper. : )

Also I guess I don't understand how the dirty dessert plates would get back to you? Do you have to tell the venue to make sure to give them back to you?

For actual food we will be using real plates, real silverware & real napkins

There are really nice plastic silverware options on Amazon. Cute little gold and rose gold plates, square plates, etc. For desserts only I'm sure you could find enough plates for under $50. Or you could use one of the online restaurant supply stores

Trust me, as a guest I've only got eyes for the sweets. I could have told you what plate I ate it off of if my life depended on it.

If I was at a wedding, I wouldn't care if the dessert plates & silverware were plastic. As long as dinner was actual china!
