Dessert at wedding reception

Kelly, on July 26, 2022 at 10:29 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 19
We were just doing wedding cake but I feel like I need one other item or two. I also have 3 vegans which is making it difficult. None of the bakeries offering me a dessert table do vegan and the vegan stuff is double the price. I am not spending the day before the wedding carting dessert around. We are all out from out of town so not wanting to deal with that type of stuff the day before. It seems impossible to find a bakery that delivers and does vegan. So, I have to have two different dessert vendors to accomodate 3 people and it’s stressing me out. Im vegetarian and I can’t imagine Anyone doing all this for me but obviously I want to feed my guests!
I am not sure how much vegan dessert I need, but I feel like a dozen of something should be enough. They may not even eat dessert. I know one isn’t a big fan of sweets. How did all of you handle special food like this? I also feel like if I offer a small quantity of something in vegan then I need to offer the same dessert for the people who don’t want vegan because then they may want what the vegan person‘s having. it just doesn’t seem like there’s an easy fix for everybody.
Anyone have advice on dessert?

What is your general area? Major city or small town suburbs? Browse eventective.com and Google.com to see if there are any local businesses you may not have asked yet.. Another option is ask your caterer if they can make a vegan dessert.

Regardless if you are having plated or buffet, you will ask your guests if they have dietary restrictions and allergies. The final headcount for all meals will be 3-4 weeks before the wedding and the rsvp due date at 4 weeks before. No one can commit before that time. You will take those counts of vegan/vegetarian/gluten free/allergy free and give them to the bakery or caterer who is providing your cake.
Also, bear in mind that some people online consider cupcakes to be a completely different chemistry makeup than cake even though they are individual portions. Also don’t automatically assume that cupcakes are cheaper because they frequently are not. If you do serve cupcakes, please have forks and plates available to prevent messes with formal clothes.
If you want a different dessert entirely that is not cake based, ask your caterer what they offer. Also, you will have family and friends wanting to help so if you need anything picked up the day before the wedding, you can ask and they would likely be happy to help out. Do what works for you.

We don’t have food allergies among our guests but a handful are vegan or gluten free and we are making sure they can have a similar cake from the bakery. But we are getting the final headcount for the baker from the rsvp count.

Thanks Michelle. Maybe I just could do vegan cake as well and keep it simple as far as selection. I’ll think on it. I have not heard of this eventective site. Thank you.

Oh man I hear ya on the vegan desserts, we have a few vegans too including in the bridal party so its especially important for me to have delicious treats for them too. Our best man is awesome and is actually picking up vegan donuts and cupcakes from a nearby bakery and dropping them off at the venue for us in the AM (we will have already paid for them). We are getting 2 dozen cupcakes and 2 dozen vegan donuts, we will not be having regular cupcakes but there will be cake and tons of other non vegan desserts. There will also be lots of fruit out so hopefully plenty of options for everyone If a loved one couldn't do it for us we were going to try to use a delivery service like Uber eats bring it and have our coordinator accept the delivery. Another vegan dessert option is sorbet or oatly ice cream. Good luck!

Donuts and cupcakes sounds like a nice and easy thing to do. I didn’t really think about Uber eats. I just imagine all these desserts sliding around the rental car lol. Fruit is a good idea . Our venue offers chocolate dip strawberries which of course aren’t vegan with the chocolate but I could probably ask them to leave the chocolate off a portion of them they’re quite expensive.

Hey a smashed cupcake still tastes delicious hahaha all you can do is try Smiley smile . Another option would be vegan brownies, I have had a few vegan brownies where I never in a million years would have guessed they were vegan. Ooooh the strawberries sound yummy, certain dark chocolates are vegan so you can always ask your venue what kind of chocolate they use. There's also a brand called No Whey Foods they have a website you can order from directly but some of their products are also available on Amazon, the chocolate truffles are tasty!

Our guest count is about 100 people. 2 of which, are vegan. We’ve catered to them for entrées but not the dessert. My husband and I care too much about good tasting cake aka not vegan that we didn’t want to waste money on catering for 2 people. It sounds harsh as I type it, but the 2 guests completely understand and are not mad about it.

What about doing a big fruit salad? The cake people can have some with their cake and the vegans can just have the salad. Just make sure no honey in used in the preparation. Either that or something like vegan cookies? Oreos are vegan, I think!

Agh you are sooo nice to be accommodating towards vegans! I was vegan before and still eat mainly plant based but not entirely vegan anymore and people rarely accommodated. Actually I only went to 1 party where the host made a vegan dish aside that I was used to just eating beforehand or bringing my own food including dessert so I wouldn’t feel left out lol but definitely think a couple donuts would be so perfect! Whole Foods carries some affordable vegan desserts including cake, donuts, and scones all of which are delicious!Smiley smile

We had vegan options for both our rehearsal and wedding reception (cocktail hour and plated dinner) for our only two vegan guests (we had close to 100 guests). We didn’t get a separate or multiple desserts, as we only had our wedding cake.

Not harsh at all! This is pretty standard. Most people that I know accommodate vegan entrees and appetizers but not vegan desserts.

HiSmiley smile I considered this. As I went out to dinner not long ago with one of the three and she said she doesn’t even really like dessert, but I just feel like I have to have some thing. To be honest I’m vegetarian. I eat dairy but I don’t eat anything else and I would never want anybody to go to this much trouble for me and stress about this on their wedding day or to spend that kind of money. Not to mention we’re gonna spend so much money on alternate desserts for everybody and then because we’re all from out of town and it’s not eaten it’s pretty much gonna go to waste. it’s hot and none of us are traveling with coolers and we’re gonna be on the road so none of us are gonna wanna carry dessert around!

I think that’s nice. We are definitely accommodating it for a rehearsal dinner and for the reception as far as entrées and appetizers. To be honest this whole trend of having multiple desserts for wedding seems like such a modern thing. I mean years ago you just had a wedding cake but there’s this feeling of having to buy multiple desserts to suit everybody. personally I think it’s ridiculous!

I agree with Gillian and Samantha. If there’s only 3 vegans on your guest list and you’re already accommodating them with their entrees, I see no need to bend over backwards for dessert for so few people. As long as they’re able to eat dinner/lunch, they probably won’t be upset.

We had one person at our wedding who was vegan and she is also allergic to nuts so we only had a special meal for her. We didn't worry about desserts especially from what I was told she doesn't really like sugary stuff anyways.

If you could find a small vegan cake that's similar enough to your wedding cake, I think that would be the best bet. It wouldn't draw attention to the fact that it's not the same so your vegan guests wouldn't feel isolated for having something different, and you wouldn't need to worry about getting enough of something else for non-vegans. Either Uber Eats could drop it off or a member of your immediate family or bridal party could grab it and drop it of that morning or the day before.

Just want to add that it's super considerate of you to consider your guests with dietary restrictions! I have food allergies, and I'm used to just passing on dessert or whatever, but it means a lot when someone takes the time to make sure I can be included.

Idk where you live, but some of the best donuts I have ever had in my life turned out to be vegan LOL. They were from "Donut Friend" in LA.
