Dessert and cake?

Jenine, on August 11, 2021 at 12:23 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
I’m trying to cut our budget and thinking cutting the desserts will help. Who’s doing just cake and no dessert table? We’re having only adults so I’m thinking open bar less desserts

We know a lady who does gourmet cupcakes as a side gig, and she is really cheap. Our cake baker is definitely not cheap. I was thinking about having like a cupcake bar with different cupcakes and then somewhere else have a smaller cake. I think this will be much cheaper.

We already booked our baker for the cake. The flavor we picked was our favorite out of tasting 3 different bakeries. I even designed our cake, just wondering if it would be enough.

You need to tell your baker that you will not be having desserts, they will calculate with bigger slices. If you serve if after dinner, it will definitely be enough.

Hi ! We had both and actually our guests ate more from the buffay than from our wedding cake... I would probably go for a mini-cake just for you tu cut and eat, and desserts for guests...?

We only had cake and it was fine. The venue cut and served it as our dessert course and it worked out perfectly. Most of the weddings I’ve been to have only had cake.

We were going to have macaroons with the cake but after we looked at our budget we couldn’t justify it and the venue is throwing in s’mores kits at no charge so we are hoping that should be more then enough.

My husband and I are having a small cake just for cake cutting purposes and about 7dozen extra cupcakes for our guests.

Every wedding I've ever been to that had a huge dessert table always had a TON of leftovers at the end and it just ended up getting thrown out. Just do a cake, people can either have a slice or not. By that point, people are usually dancing anyway and aren't looking to continue eating a ton of sugar, one slice of cake is fine.

Great ideas! Yeah its been a while that I've been to a wedding and honestly just the cake will be enough. I was curious what others were doing. Thank you

I’m honestly doing a fake cake, wedding cakes are expensive and I feel like it’s waisted a lot and then I will have a sheet cake that a friend will make that will be served to my guests.

We’re doing cake only. All the weddings we have attended did that as well, plus we love good cake.

The best wedding cake I have had as a guest was a half sheet cake cut in front of guests to order as they wished (big slices so you could taste it) and everyone went back for 2nds and 3rds.

I don't think it's necessary to have both either, but we have dessert included in our meal and can't remove it, so we just downsized our cake - usually there's tons of cake left over.

I did look into that for our wedding will be outside in the summer but we didn't like the design of the faux cake.

We didn’t have a dessert table- just cake. It was totally fine. Our guests were more interested in the open bar then desserts. We had an adult only wedding & reception.

We are only doing a traditional cake. We will have different flavors per layer for variety in our likes.

If there was something special like we really liked a certain pie recipe or had some affinity for macaroons we would do that; but wedding cake is unique in that it's the one occasion where you get to eat it. So, I want the specialness of that occasion to be the focus vs. having a bunch of other options.
