Designated drivers service

Colleen, on May 5, 2016 at 9:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Has anyone used a designated driver service for guests? We were considering doing a limo or shuttle van, at least for guests staying at hotel, but unsure of numbers. So I'm thinking a designated driver service might be better since its a small wedding anyway. Any experiences/suggestions appreciated!

Does your hotel have a shuttle service? Ours offered it with our hotel block!

Unfortunately, the hotel is not helpful. They have a shuttle but it is only for airport runs (even though the venue is closer than the airport and I doubt it will be busy at 11pm on a Friday...). The hotel we blocked with is offering us nothing, even the room prices are better on other websites. I had a guest recently ask if she needs to book with the block because she found same room $30 cheaper using a booking app... Unfortunately its too late to change.

We used a drive home service that takes the guests in their car home while following behind them is another to take the driver back. If that makes sense. We used a dog rescue group that has done a bunch of Christmas parties we have been to and they were awesome. That way everyone gets a ride home and their car is home as well. We paid the fee so it was free to guests but many of them tipped their drivers and the money goes to good cause. We have also been to one where the grad class of one of the high schools did it.

I was a BM in a wedding where the brides father surprised them with a limo for their getaway. Since there was a 2 hour minimum, he had it take them to the hotel, then come back for the bridal party, then come back for any guests that did not want to drive. One groomsman's gf didn't want to wait the extra 10 minutes for the limo to come back, so she drove, got in an accident turning out of the venue and got a DUI. Where we live, the people she hit could have sued the brides father because he provided the alcohol, but he had provided transportation, so only the driver was sued.

We're going to uber everywhere the day of. WAY cheaper than a car service and even cheaper than a regular taxi in my area.
