Deployment/postponement announcement?

FutureMrsAF, on April 8, 2017 at 12:32 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

We just found out my FH may be getting deployed. I'm devastated about this and it isn't even official, but I am trying to plan ahead in the event that it becomes official.

What is the protocol for a postponement announcement? Our plan is to move up the wedding to before he deploys (our current date is 8/12, if it's after that we will stick with the original wedding), but if we end up moving it up it would likely be a private ceremony with just us and our parents/siblings as we wouldn't have much time to plan/resend all stationary/find new venue etc. we'd still like to do either a renewal or larger reception for everyone once he is home and has had some R&R, not sure on the etiquette of these announcements or what it should say... I never thought I'd have to write one!

Advice would be appreciated.

Maybe postponement isn't the right word, but canceling isn't right either since that's not what's happening.....

No clue on the protocol, but I'm sorry to hear about the deployment! My FH is National Guard, and there's a strong rumor his unit will be deployed next year, but I won't find out till this summer if that's going to happen or not. It sucks. It sucks waiting in suspense to find out whether it'll happen or not, and if he does go, that'll suck even more :/

Did you send Save the Date cards?

Maybe some sort of "I'm sorry but the wedding of __ &__ will not be held as planned." "Stay tuned for future plans" (not sure for the wording of the last part but it's all I could think of off the top of my head) If you wanted to add the reason why you could? Not sure on the etiquette of that or not.

@alc, yes, otherwise I wouldn't be worried about any announcements cause no one would know the difference.

@michelle, yup, my FH is in the guard as well... fingers crossed for both of us!!

I would send something like a monthly wedding announcement, something cute like a newsletter etc. To give them a heads up as you know more. I'm so sorry to hear this.
