Is anyone worried for their upcoming summer wedding that this new variant is going to shut everything down? I’m getting married on July 30th and getting nervous my state is going to start putting restrictions in place again Smiley sad

Yup. I live in Sydney Australia, where we are currently in lockdown due to the delta variant. It appears to be extremely transmissible and virulent, and we may need to postpone our wedding as a result. It's no joke, so YES I'm very much afraid for what you describe.

That said, if you're planning in America, most people have been vaccinated whereas our vaccine rollout is insanely, glacially slow, so we don't have that protection here - not even 10% of our population has been vaccinated, and many groups aren't even eligible to apply.

I’m July 31 and definitely nervous. I don’t anticipate another shut down in NY but I could see my honeymoon being effected.

I think you'll be okay! I don't think they'll shut down restaurants/wineries and all of that in two weeks. I was mostly thinking about large crowds.

I hope so! Hawaii actually hasn’t opened any of that fully yet they are running in limited capacities and they JUST ended travel restrictions for vaccinated people. Fingers crossed they don’t go back, although I totally get why.

    Are you going anywhere?!

I think you will be fine since it’s only a few weeks away. Good luck!

I think since the CDC is saying if you're vaccinated then you are still mostly fine, Hawaii will start making people take a negative test again, even if you are vaccinated. Are you leaving right after your wedding?

We are going to Zurich for a few days & then the Maldives! We aren't going until New Years since we have so many more weddings this summer. I'm a bit worried about that too Smiley sad

Fingers crossed it all works out!

Ah that sounds great! We are going to do Bora Bora next year, we only had 2 weeks for a honeymoon this year and want to use more time for that trip.
Can only take everything as it comes.

It's the 18th of September. Our current lockdown is in place until the end of this month, so still a while to go until we need to really panic, but currently I'm not allowed to have my dress altered, we can't have the suits fitted, and we can't have any kind of hens/bachelorette event right now, or any of those prep things we'd want to do in the leadup. I don't really care if I can't have a bachelorette, but I'm sad my bridesmaids have organised something, and we'll now have to postpone it after all their hard work. I'm also worried I won't even have a dress, since it's at my alterations lady. And as things currently stand, we're also not allowed to travel further than 10km, so neither we nor our guests would be allowed to get to where our wedding is! (I mean, right now, weddings aren't allowed AT ALL, so, there's that).

I'm actually relieved I can blurt this all out here, since it is so hard and stressful! I will say thought, it's really the only stressful part of wedding planning we've had so far, everything else has been a dream, so I'm very, very grateful.

Hi ! I think it should be fine. For instance : France just annonced the restrictions but it's not till August. And no shuting down, weddings are still possible, but for if more than 50 people they need to be vaccinated or have negative test...

No, definitely not in the US. I don't see another shut down happening no time soon honestly.

I agree with Yasmine. Our wedding isn't until Jan. 2022 so we aren't too concerned, but we still don't see our state or even the US shutting down again anytime soon.

No. I live in Seattle, one of the most shut down-happy places in the country and I don’t even see it happening here (although almost everyone is vaccinated)

I have been getting more nervous about it. I postponed my wedding 3 times already and we were starting to get back to normal. I live in NJ and I don't think my physical and mental health can take another lockdown/mandates.

Looking at it objectively the variant is not more deadly than the o.g strain and the vaccines are strong against the virus, we also have more treatments. It's not the same as March 2020.

The Delta variant is so much more easily transmitted, even outdoors, the early symptoms are different (meaning people aren't guessing they have COVID and getting tested right away) and though it seems that vaccinated people aren't catching it in high numbers, it is definitely taking hold in places with poor vaccination rates. All of that is to say, that yeah, I would worry.

But, if your wedding is soon, all you can do is communicate about the importance of vaccinations to your guests and require masks and distancing for the non-vaccinated ones.
