Define Your Relationship/ Marriage

The Bride, on July 15, 2019 at 6:53 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

I once read a quote that perfectly defines my marriage. For my husband and I, marriage is the recognition of our missing pieces in one another.

How would you define your relationship/marriage?

I’m not a fan of saying he is my missing piece or completes me because I was a whole person before I met him. But his traits compliment me and they also challenge me and push me to be better in a lot of ways.

I understand. Is that how you would define your marriage?

Yes. I’ve spent over a decade in therapy working on myself and learning to love myself and be okay on my own. So I would never say he completes me because to me that implies I wasn’t whole.

My fiance likes to say we complete each other. I, much like the other Kelly, think we are whole before marriage but that our personalities and strengths compliment one another to make a seamless team.

A "seamless team" is a nice way to define your marriage

I saw this quote before that said you're both my adventure and home... And that's how I feel with him.

Oh I forgot to mention that during my vows I had said a Maya Angelou quote: in all the world there is no heart for me like yours, in all the world there is no love for you like mine

I agree with this! I think we compliment each other. We both have strengths and weaknesses. We encourage each other to be better at the things we aren't so great at. I definitely think I was "whole" before I met him but now I can't imagine my life without him.

So would you define your marriage as complementing each other?
