Deep/Low Back Dress Brides - What Bra Did or Will You Wear?

mrsaj2b, on November 8, 2014 at 9:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

I am looking for a bra to wear with my reception dress that has a low back. I have 38DDD girls and I am used to a bra with industrial strength size straps and holding power. For this dress I have to find a backless bra or one where the straps are low on the back with great support. To make it even more tricky the front of the bra has to have a deep plunge.

Any suggestions? What bra are you wearing?

Here's a pic of my dress:

My dress was a racer back. I was gonna wear the sticky chicken cutlets but had cups sewn in instead. But, I am only a B (C on a good day) cup. It ended up being a perfect option for me because those sticky bras get sweaty and lose their stick after some dancing.

I have an illusion back dress and I'm also planning on getting cups sewn in. Although my dress hasn't arrived yet, I'm a D cup and I'm feeling pretty confident that this will work out (along with alterations) so that the dress fits properly and my girls aren't left flying free in the wind.

I am a full D and had a backless dress and went without a bra and used fashion tape to keep things in place. I guess it would depend on how the dress is constructed as mine had some boning and like a small shelf bra already made into the dress. Cups sewn in would have done nothing for me.

I going to put it out there and just say...I have a rack. 3DDD is a rack. I purposely didn't buy a dress with a low back for this reason. I understand my limitations. That being said, finding something that would accommodate the girls while still fitting in merely a strapless gown was a challenge. I ended up buying a 40DD strapless that worked perfectly with my dress, even though I'm a 40G. Try a convertable bra in a smaller size. Also try getting fitted at a Nordstroms. They are the best when it comes to bras.

    Thanks everyone.

@KarenM - You know I paid no attention to the bra issue when I first tried on this gown. My focus was just on the gown itself and since I tried it on with my normal bra I just didn't think that I wouldn't be able to wear one of my regular bras with the gown. LOL! The gown had me dazzled I suppose.

I am super busty. I was really mindful of this while shopping until I tried on a dress with cups and boning built in. I was seriously surprised at how much support I had. That dress ended up being the one I went with because I fell in love with the style but it was a definite bonus that my Gs were secure with a keyhole back.

I had cups sewn in as well... I also wore a bra from Victoria Secret. (it is strapless with adhesive tape to secure it to your body...you can try it to see if it could work)

My longline strapless bra is being altered to accommodate the semi deep v in the back.

I used to have a Victoria Secret bra that had a strap that hooked to one side, went around your waist and then hooked to the other side. It pulled the back of the bra down on any bra. The only thing was you would need straps to keep it from pulling the whole bra down. Also, Victoria Secret makes this bra with a deep plunge and sticks to your sides:

I know you wouldn't need the pushup but it may help keep everything in place?

Unless you can find some of those long line bras, you can try those tape cups. honestly, if you're going to be dancing, I would recommend looking for another dress. I'm a 32F and I need to be in a bra if I'm moving about.

That is the low back bra strap converter I had mentioned. I really think it would work and give you support. You can make the back lower by letting out your bra straps and pulling the strap lower around your waist. I used to have one of these and I loved it.

I had cups sewn in. I am a 36C and the seamstress was leery about putting them in my dress. She said typically they don't put cups in a dress for anyone larger then a B cup, but since my dress had boning, I had some extra support. My boobs looked good lol.

I know you don't want to hear this, but when you need so much extra support because you're extra blessed in the chest, I don't think that dress was the best choice for you. =( I hope you can find something that will work though!

I have no input about "support" but that is a GORGEOUS dress! Do you mind telling me the designer/style? I'd love to show that to my FSIL as I think it would be AMAZING for her...thanks Smiley smile

@Future Mrs. Wilson - The dress is style #9116 by Allure. The dress is gorgeous especially in person.

@Gabby - The VS bra was one of the ones the seamstress who will be doing the alterations mentioned to me.

@Now I'm Mrs_M and Lara - I am in weight loss/keep it off mode. From past experience my boob size will change as a result. I don't do alterations until July/Aug of next year so we will see.

Ladies - keep the ideas coming. I appreciate all of the responses.

I'm a 34B so I don't really need support, I'm having cups sewn in to give me some cleavage and lift!

I am 36DDD and am having the same issue. I was also dazzled by my dress! There is a corset company that you can have custom corsets made from the UK. They are amazing! The website is axfords.com and the low back style is C420, however I'm not sure the back will be low enough for you. This is the most supportive option I have found for us "blessed" ladies. If I find anything else that works, I'll be sure to post.
