Dedication songs and father/daughter dance

Tiffany, on July 13, 2020 at 7:54 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

I've been asking SO many questions lately! I'm sure I'll have plenty more though! Today, I have two questions.

1. Did or are any of you going to dedicate a song to your bridal party? If so, what? My DJ has an online thing where we can fill in the songs for each "activity" and dedication to bridal party was on there. I'm sure I can just leave it blank but I kinda like the idea so wanted to ask opinions on what types of songs.

2. My dad and I have a good relationship and I'm kind of a daddy's girl (I know he'll do anything and everything he can for me, anytime) so he is going to walk me down the aisle with my son. However, we don't have the typical father/daughter relationship. I grew up in a family that didn't really hug and say I love you all the time. It's just like an unspoken thing. Plus my dad is not a dancer and gets uncomfortable when all eyes are on him (so sucking it up to walk me down the aisle is more than enough). So there will not be a father/daughter dance. My son (17 by then) has said he doesn't want to dance with me. Neither will my daughter (7). I'm not really offended, I get it. But my concern is my fiance is dancing with his mom because they DO share a relationship like that. Any suggestions on how I should handle this? Anyone else in this situation?

What do you mean by dedicate a song to the bridal party? Do you mean when they walk into the ceremony and/or reception or something else? And for the mother/son dance there’s nothing to really handle. If this is something they want to do then they should do it. That’ll just be part of timeline for the reception and the father/daughter dance won’t.

Oh I'm not trying to say anything about them having a dance that's not what i meant. I'm good with that I'm just not sure if i should fill the father daughter dance with something else and what do i say if ppl ask why i didn't have one. Just trying to be prepared. Really hoping someone that's been in my shoes would comment more than anything honestly. And a dedication to the bridal party like a song expressing our gratitude? I guess.... not like their entrance song that's separate. It was listed on the DJs website on our account to fill in a song so that's why I'm asking if anyone did it or is familiar with it.

I’ve never heard of dedicating a song to the bridal party; that’s different. I think I would pick a fun song that we all pretty much know the words to and would have fun dancing and being silly to. That’s if you want to do it all. I don’t think you need to fill the father/daughter dance with anything unless there’s someone else you want to honor with a dance. I’ve seen brides dance with their mom to an upbeat song though.

I've never heard of anyone dedicating a song to the bridal party, really I think it would put them on the spot to dance. They're already kinda "put on the spot" a lot throughout the day with how much attention they get.

As far as parent dances go, we're in the opposite situation. I'll do a father/daughter dance, but my partner will not dance with my MIL. We've talked about it and it's just a big no. We aren't really doing anything about it, but I'm expecting it to come up later when MIL finds out. I don't think any of the guests will find it odd, but she may be offended. My attitude is it's our day, so if we want to skip it, we're skipping it and it's no one's place to complain.

Yeah I'm skipping it more for my dad not so much me. It would be awkward for me cause we don't have THAT type of relationship but for him worth all eyes on him it would be. I guess I'll just take it one comment or question at a time lol

A spotlight dedication song is not necessary. Plus if you have any attendants who are shy, they are already struggling with the attention by standing up at the ceremony. Just have a fun time dancing and mingling without extra spotlight dances.

If you are not that close to your dad and he isn't comfortable dancing, it is ok to skip it. Guests will understand, if they're even paying attention at all during the parent dance/s.
