Decorating my pergola

Erin , on July 22, 2018 at 10:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi everyone!
so I am getting married in a courtyard of a hotel in July, they have this beautiful pergola we will be standing underneath but I don’t want to leave it plain. I was looking through Pinterest and found this photo I would love to recreate! My only issue is I don’t know my fabrics very well, so I’m in need of advice and thoughts on what type of fabric to use that drapes well but is also inexpensive. Let me know your thoughts and what you are going to use or have used. Don’t be afraid to post photos of your pergolas as well, more inspiration is always welcome! Thanks everyone!

Hi! I’m too new to have pictures of pergolas to share, but the white fabric looks like a tulle or chiffon to me! Not sure about the gold one, 🤨.

It's hard to tell with the gold, but the white definitely looks like chiffon. Too soft to be tulle, I think. If I had to guess with the gold, I'd say probably one of those gold costume fabrics they sell at Joann and similar stores.

I'm not super familiar with fabrics either, but maybe you could find a couple of floor length sheer curtain panels in your desired colors at a thrift store or fabric store? That might work well for what you are trying to create.

That looks like chiffon but tulle could also work. We’re planning on doing something sort of similar. You might be able to find cheap/decent curtains on amazon that could work. And we’re still debating on real/fake flowers for it.

Have you asked the hotel if you can decorate the pergola? If they allow it, do they have restrictions on what can be used and how items can be attached? If they are good with what you have planned, you'll need to measure the height of the pergola.

Honestly, I would wander the aisles of Joanns and find a white and gold fabric you like that is inexpensive. This will be the perfect time of the year to find the gold with Halloween and Christmas fabrics now in stock. I would buy at least 1.5 times the height of the pergola for each fabric. So, if the pergola is 10 feet high, buy 15 feet of each fabric. Maybe more if the draping will be more extensive than that pictured. If you are wanting the floral arrangements, know that they will be expensive.

Chiffon. Tulle will be too stiff.

Here's a link to low-priced chiffon I found on Amazon that I plan on ordering for my arch.
