Decor setup/breakdown

Jasmine, on September 26, 2016 at 11:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

My reception venue only allows me in the day of and requires all decorations removed at the end of the night. Due to liability issues the staff is unable to help assemble or load any of the items. My reception venue actually comes with a day of coordinator and even advised not to get one because they already handle it. Needless to say I'm trying to keep from getting one just for setting up and breaking down because the cheapest day of coordinator I can find is ~$1000 and I really don't need any other help planning or getting/handling vendors. I won't be renting any outside decor and it will mostly be just setting up the centerpieces and gift table. I don't want to enlist any friends or family members, because obviously I want them there to enjoy themselves. Any ideas of how I could do this without breaking the bank or is a coordinator the only way to practically do this?

Would you have say the help of a local college student looking to make $150-200 in a day?

Then what the hell does your venue's day of coordinator do? i didn't need to hire a separate DOC because the woman who came with the venue oversaw EVERYTHING. Seems weird.

I could look into the college student idea. Thanks for the suggestion Megan W!

Mrs. RATR, the provided DOC just coordinates with vendors and helps move along the day as we want it to flow (ie cocktail hour to dinner, speeches, cake, dances...), she will also provide assistance to amy last minute problems that may arise or at least that's what they told us.

My venue will do little things but not major decorating. I'm surprised you can find a DOC for less than $1000. Does your venue have a list maybe? I'm sure they have had to make suggestions for most weddings if they don't do all the cleanup and such.

I had the same issue. The venue provides a partial DOC to assisted with 1hr of rehearsal and the 30min ceremony, THAT'S IT! So we had to "upgrade the DOC" for $600 to get them to start with any assistance now then full hands on from March til wedding day May 28th 2017. I need the extra help for set up and coordination from beginning of day to end.

Ask the venue if you can hire one of their employees for set up/break down.

If not, I like the college kid idea.

FH and I actually did ours by ourselves and it was a royal pain!

I find that weird also. Our venue wouldn't help us unload or load anything. But, as long as it was labeled they would put it out for us. And they boxed it all back up at the end of the night. We just had to load it into the car ourselves.

I like the college student idea.

Hmmm that seems weird. My venue also provides a DOC and a design team and they set everything up for us. From the twinkle lights on the ceiling to the centerpieces. They even let us store everything overnight so we don't have to deal with taking stuff out to the car on the night of our big day. Hiring someone to decorate for you seems like the best way to go. You don't want to have to add on that extra stress of setting up and tearing down.

Does someone you know have a teenager that you could hire them and a friend for $100 each to do set up and break down. I know I would have in high school or college! Lol

I apparently picked a weird venue ; ) I'm currently looking at different options. There's a community college that has an event coordination certificate program and there might be some students interested in the experience there. There's also a private college that offers an interior design BA and I might place an advertisement there as well. I also started contacting decor rental companies that offer setup and asked how much just setting up my decor would be. One company is actually putting together a custom quote for me because she said no one had ever asked before! I'll hopefully find what I'm looking for soon, thanks for all the suggestions!!
