Declaration of intent

Sara, on June 15, 2012 at 12:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

I know a bride posted about this a while back and I commented on the thread and cannot find it now! I have been researching the declaration of intent for the wedding ceremony and some sites say it can be thought of as your vows and other so it as a separate thing. Does anyone know which way it is? Does it matter???

I just talked with my pastor about this last night. The declaration of intent can be separate, but it's not all that necessary. I mean, you're both there, so you probably do intend to get married or else you wouldn't be there, right? She suggested that it was kinda redundant, but some people like to do it anyway.

We are writing our own vows. I was thinking of putting short declaration of intent in there. I don't think that it is required in Alaska, not that I've seen anyway. I could be wrong though.

As Nancy T. Says, in FL it is necessary by law. Check with your officiant.
