I totally understand because we went through the same thing. In the end we decided to do a DW and were glad we did. The downside of it was everyone couldn’t celebrate with us but we understood. Make sure you consider who is important to you and if they will be able to attend a DW and then go from there. Good luck.

I think it’s a personal preference. For us, destination made sense because no matter where we had it, it was a destination for at least 1/2.

We’re doing a small destination wedding and then having a reception back home for family...it’s the best of both worlds for us....so what works for you!

My parents both asked if we wanted a destination wedding. And I wish I would have listened. There is so much input from others that I can’t enjoy wedding planning (I’m not a speak up, kind of person. And I even have a wedding planner) So if I could go back, I would definitely have a destination wedding, BUT I’m also planning the wedding of my dreams! Do what makes you and your fiancé the most happy!

This was us totally. We found out it would cost 10x more for a dw then just staying locally :-/ We are still under our budget and almost got everything we need for our special day. Plus our family can enjoy it with us.

I stayed local for mine just cause I wanted a lot of people there and knew destination wedding wouldn’t cut it

For a DW, how many guests? Where? How much will it cost for each person? Can each of your guests afford it? These are all really important questions.

We originally planned a DW weekend (in our same state but 8 hours away). Due to costs for us and guests, we did a micro DW (15 guests) and a larger local reception (50 guests) three months later. Best of both worlds!

Do what will make you the happiest! Even if it’s local, you will still have out of town family and friends. We’re doing destination because half the guest list is going to have to fly no matter what. But it’s actually cheaper than doing it where we live. Guest list is smaller (50 instead of 200). And of course you can choose a destination that is more beautiful!
