Deciding on Veil length

MrsRidley, on February 1, 2017 at 3:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I put a deposit down on my dress, but when I tried on the dress at the shop I did not try on veils with it. I know for sure I want a cathedral veil, and I am ordering from Blanca Veils on Etsy. I have tried on cathedral veils with other dresses but not the particular dress I chose. Blanca veils has different choices in veil length. I was thinking the 10 ft or 9 ft veil but I don't know which one. Even though I'm not ordering my veil from the shop I am getting my dress from, should I still go back and try on different veil lengths? Moral of the story: would it be rude to try on veils (for length check) at another place without actually ordering it from there?

If you think it is rude go during an off time so you are not taking away business from a potential sale. Although I think since you have already given them a good chuck of money it wouldn't be a big deal.

I'd wait and try on veils with your dress when it comes in! Without seeing the veil with your dress on, you don't really know what it's all going to look like together!

Personally, I do think it would be a bit rude to test lengths at a shop when you intend on buying from another. But then my question for you is, do you care if you're rude? (Haha) You don't have to tell them you're just testing the lengths so you can make a purchase elsewhere. Just say you're checking out what kind of veils you might like, then you can end the trip with "Thanks so much, but I think I'll keep looking" or something along those lines. You must have a very specific idea for your veil, so if you don't find that at the bridal shop then you could be honest about that and they'd understand...you just don't have to tell them about the one you found online Smiley winking

Have you ever been veil shopping before? The experience I've had in all the shops I went to is that their selection is rather limited...I'm not sure if you'll have much luck to physically see the difference between a 9ft vs 10ft veil specifically...but that shop may be different than what I'm used to, of course.

Generally speaking though, I think the length of your veil would depend on the length of the aisle you'll be walking...otherwise, I don't think 1 ft will make much difference, as long as it's reaching past the train on your dress (if applicable).

I don't see how trying on things is rude. You have to do what you have to do.

Go in and try on veils! Then just order online.

Definitely try it on first, if you feel bad, just tell them you didn't find one you fell in love with but thank you anyway

Thank you everyone. I might do what Lynnie suggested and wait until my dress comes in.

Rachel I too ordered the swatch kit, so I know exactly what I want to order lol. I was just so excited after it came in.
