Deciding on a cruise wedding...

Kasandra, on January 10, 2018 at 1:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
My FH and I have been looking into doing a Carnival Cruise wedding to Hawaii. We both come from large families,so we were thinking about doing a ceremony on the boat with just our parents and grandparents, but now when we talk about it other family is interested in joining as well. I feel like I just have so many questions about it. My FH is set on a cruise to Hawaii for our wedding no matter what, but we are the ones paying for everything, so it all matters to me. If anyone could help it would be amazing. Hawaii is my dream destination for my wedding and a cruise is amazing.

Does it cost a lot extra to have more people at the ceremony if they are sailing with you? How does the non sailing guests work out for a ceremony? Is it really expensive to have a reception on the cruise? Are the photos from the carnival photographer a lot of money each?

You should go to the wedding & honeymoon section on Cruise Critic. They have lots of information there on having a cruise wedding.

I wouldn't cruise on Carnival... but if you like the cruiseline, then I'm sure you already know what to expect from them. There are lots of Carnival brides on that forum.

My sister got married on a Carnival Cruise out of Miami 7 years ago. I am not really sure of the pricing. I do know that there were some guest that didn't sail with us. The entire group that were attending got to board ahead of general boarding. My sister got to pick 2 staterooms to be ready for the wedding, so she could get ready in one. The non-sailing guest got to stay for the ceremony and most of the reception. I think they had to be off the boat an hour before it set sail. I do remember the reception was all inclusive, they had appetizers, drinks and cake. You had the DJ, officiant, wait staff, photographer. I believe with the photographer you could get a package or pick pictures individually. I wish I had more info for you. You may want to look at cruisecritic.com and search carnival weddings.

My FH and i have booked our cruise wedding already but it's with royal however at the beginning i also had looked at carnival. Go on carnival website and there's their wedding brochure for you to download for viewing. It depends on the package you choose and you can always enhance it by adding items to it including F&B items.

Most cruise sites have really good information pages about their weddings. I would suggest not cruising Carnival and look into a different cruise line, unless you have cruised them before and really like them.

Thank you for suggesting Cruise Critic. So far it has been really helpful and answered some of my questions. I cruised with Carnival for the first time 2 years ago and loved it, especially because of how Child oriented it is.

Where are you located? Most Hawaii cruises leave out of west coast like Vancouver and San Diego. Are you local to these ports? This would be a long way for guests to travel for a short ceremony and reception.

Agreed with a PP. If your guests and family already live on the west coast then it might be fine but I live in Florida, and I don't know if I'd fly all the way to the west coast then get on the cruise ship for the wedding just to have a cake and punch/apps reception (from the sound of it) just to get off the ship to then....fly home? Pass. It honestly doesn't sound like a convenient thing for your guests. I'd also said carnival maybe one more time, I don't think once is enough to get a great idea. Perhaps get married where it's easier for everyone and then take the cruise as your honeymoon?

Fair enough- if you enjoy Carnival then why spend the extra money?

Our son loves Celebrity, and when we want to go adults only, we cruise Oceania.

I'm located on the East coast, but a lot of my family lives on the West Coast or some where in the middle. A few family members on the East Coast think a cruise is a great idea. My grandmother who is terrified of planes is willing to take a plane for my wedding.
