Hi everyone! This is my first post here so I hope I'm not butchering it too badly. I've finally decided that it would be best to do my own makeup on the day of my wedding (due to budget and the location where I'm getting married...no MUA are really around there) but I'm nervous to the point of...

Hi everyone! This is my first post here so I hope I'm not butchering it too badly.

I've finally decided that it would be best to do my own makeup on the day of my wedding (due to budget and the location where I'm getting married...no MUA are really around there) but I'm nervous to the point of having nightmares about it. lol. Seriously.

My main concern is that I have VERY oily skin, and I'm terrified that it's going to slide right off my face during my November wedding in the South. Makeup tends to look horrible on me as the day goes on. I'm not sure if it's skin care or the products, because I use higher end stuff (Clinique, Estee Lauder, etc)

Can anyone give me reassurance? What did you do for your wedding day makeup? Is doing it myself a terrible idea?

    I'm using the matte spray.

I do use a moisturizer in the morning; I'm currently using Cetaphil's oil control with SPF.

Try moisturizing at night heavily and doing a moisturizing primer in the morning. That might help.

I use Josie Moran Argan Oil! It seems counterproductive to use an oil for oily skin, but my skin rarely has an issue being greasy! It takes a couple tries to get just the right amount on the skin, but when you get there it's great.

I second cleansing with oil! I used to have oily skin and these are the things that helped me:

-Drinking a ton of water (I drink about 4 litres/a gallon on days that I workout and on a rest day 3 litres)

-Moisturizing! It sounds weird to add more to your already oily skin, but seriously it works! I use Desert Essence Day lotion and then at night I moisturize with jojoba oil. I used to think that adding lotions to my skin would make things worse, but it had the opposite effect.

For my foundation I use Clinique superbalanced. It's great for sensitive skin!

    Good luck!

I'll try the oil as suggested! Is there a special technique that y'all use to cleanse with the oil, or do you just rub it into your skin after you cleanse first?

A light layer of Milk of Magnesia under your makeup will keep the oil at bay. I know it sounds strange but it works

@joRocka I've had airbrush (face) done a few times. It has lasted way longer than any high end makeup with primer and setting spray I've ever used. It's just a personal preference. If anything I'm 99% wrong, but not completely Smiley smile

@Magical - I wash my face with Christina Moss Naturals (https://www.amazon.com/Cleanser-Chemicals-Christina-Moss-Naturals/dp/B00FZESMKG/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1484892645&sr=8-1&keywords=christian+moss+naturals), use the Christina Moss toner, and then rub jojoba oil on to moisturize. Jojoba also works as an amazing eye makeup remover! I just use the oil at night though, as it does give you a shiny face.

Have you thought about going to sephora and getting your makeup done with them ahead of the wedding and getting their input of the best products for your skin? They're usually super helpful.

Sorry to dredge this old thread back from the dead, but I wanted to update y'all and let you know I will NOT be doing my own makeup after all. Just...nah.

    BUT.

To help out my fellow oily brides, I'm gonna leave you with this: I took some recommendations and switched products, and bumped up my routine a little bit. I've been using powder directly after my primer and BEFORE foundation, and CeraVe face wash and night cream have been godsends! My face is much less oily than it was before.

    (tl;dr moisturizing helps)

My husband has very oily skin and he loves witch hazel. I have sensitive skin and eczema so I stick to what I know works which is Cetaphil.

My sister did my makeup for my wedding. She's a rookie MUA. I just wanted a very natural look.

Go to a licensed aesthetician and get a facial. Talk with them about skin care routines and products to use the weeks and days prior. I am licensed as an aesthetician and a makeup artist but no longer practice. The first rule in great makeup is having a solid base with great skin Smiley smile understanding your skin type(s) and knowing how different products interact with them will set you in the right direction when looking for products. My face will get oily but it's really because I lack water in the top layers so my skin produces oil to try and balance it. The right moisturizer and I stopped turning oily
