Dec 4th 2021 timeline stress

Holli, on August 24, 2021 at 12:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
Hey y’all!

So with the early sunset in December the wedding ceremony will be at 3pm (so much earlier than I thought). What’s too long for a wedding? Or what are y’all’s timelines start of ceremony to buses coming for your guests? It’s starting to really stress me out!
Thanks!

Daughter's wedding was in January a few years ago. Sunset was forecast for 5 pm. Their outdoor ceremony (So Cal...) began at 3:30 and ended by 4 pm. Cocktail hour 4-5. Guests moved to reception space at 5, bridal party was introduced followed by first dance at 5:15, welcome toast by FOB, MOH & BM toasts, etc. Dinner service began at 5:30. Reception ended at 10:30. The day started for the B, G, parents, wedding party, etc., between 6-7 am, so B&G were fine with things wrapping up by 10:30.

Our wedding will be about 4.5 hours for our guests (30 minute ceremony + 4 hour reception, all at the same venue). Is your ceremony at a church or your reception venue? If at a church, services can take up to an hour + travel time between venues while no more than 30 minutes is pretty standard for secular ceremonies. Most receptions I've been to have been between 4-5 hours total, including cocktail hour.

Don't stress! I usually see receptions lasting between 4 and 6 hours. Here are a few articles and discussions to help you gather more ideas for your timeline.
