Dealing with unknown guests on the seating charts.

Emma, on October 22, 2018 at 10:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13

So, in spite of my best efforts to identify all people who sent me rsvps without names written in them, I wasn't able to identify 4 people. They are 2 couples. We are doing seating charts, no place cards. I have 2 ideas. First idea, wrote ' unknown guest couple #1, unknown guest couple #2 . The second is to label these people 'blank rsvp couple #1, blank rsvp couple #2. Then I would add a bubble pointing to these which would say, 'Cant't find your name? You go here!!'. What do you think. How has anyone else dealt with this?

Why can’t you find out who the four people are?

Go through your guest list and mark off all of the people that RSVPd yes and all of the people that RSVPd no, that should give you a good guess of who the unknown RSVPers are. Also, when your RSVP deadline passes and you contact everyone to let them know you need their final answer, you will likely get a text back saying that they sent their RSVP and you can clarify from there.

Already did all the contacting to no avail. About 16 people never responded in spite of receiving a STD, an invitation, contact via Messenger, and directly texting them. What I also got was an email from the MOG who was upset that I contacted her guests because she refused to do it. She felt that her opinion on whether her unresponsive guests would come or not was good enough. Yeah, I don't think so. But that's another discussion. The last text was to tell them that I would mark them as no if they didn't respond. Most didnt.

How come you can't figure out who they are? After your deadline you're meant to call anyone who you didn't receive an RSVP from, to get a definite answer. That should clear up any confusion and ensure you don't have extras show up because their RSVPs got lost

Yeah it posted after I had opened the thread so I didn't see it.

Well if they didn't respond when you told them you would mark them as a no, then that's that sorted. I wouldn't include them and assume they're someone who replied already

I feel like this points out to all of your guests that they didn't put their names on rsvps. Some people just forget and I doubt they want to feel embarrassed when looking at the seating chart. I think you label it as "friends of the couple" or "extra" then leave it up to them to find it or put your blurb about not being able to find their name.

That's sounds like a great idea. Thanks. I just couldn't think of a better way.

What does the MOG suggest you do? Since she seems opposed to reaching out for firm answers, I’m curious what her take is on this. IMO it would be in poor taste to not find out the names so you can do a proper seating chart.

I got TEN rsvps from people who said they were coming and didn't sign their names. I know I should have numbered them but too late by then! I was able to figure out most except for 2, a total of 4 guests. The 16 people who didn't respond were marked as no,but, I don't know if there is any overlap because none of them responded!! So annoying and frustrating, especially since I got no help from the MOG-these were all her family.

Her response to each guest was ' probably " or ' probably not', followed by ' that's the best I can do.' And then told the bride that people never rsvp.anymore so we should guess. Ya, no.

Are those 4 people going to be at the same table? If so, I would include the names of all 16 non responders on escort cards with the same table number. That way the 4 unknowns will find their names and the other 12 won’t matter. It will cost you 12 extra cards but if you’re printing at home (like we are) it’s not a big deal. Not sure that’s the best idea but something to consider. Good luck!
