Dealing with Dress Regret

Nina, on October 27, 2019 at 5:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I purchased my dress on my first shopping spree and within a few days, the regret set in. Why, oh why, didn’t I sleep on it?! I did have an emotional reaction of “love” when I slipped it on but I think I got confused with it being a beautiful dress versus it being the dress I pictured myself in. I went home and searched IG for every woman who has worn this dress and realized I don’t think it’s that special. And it’s not the silhouette I thought I wanted. This is more of a fit and fall and I definitely think I want more of a dramatic mermaid bottom. The dress is two pieces with the bodice being a body suit and so I am wondering if I can find and purchase a different, more dramatic, skirt to pair it with it? I don’t think it’ll be the dress of my dreams even if I found a different skirt, but it’ll be closer to it. Has anyone come across any good bridal separates that they could share? Or has anyone had a positive experience working with the bridal salon even if they have a no cancels, no exchanges, nonrefundable policy (they made us pay in full....ugh)?

Definitely try to make it the dress of your dreams! I feel like I went through a brief period of dress regret, but I just had a talk with myself... My dress was also nonrefundable, nontransferable, etc. PLUS I was only 5 mo away from my wedding day, so time was pressing. But I just had a miracle moment. I kept looking for dresses, but I only fell in love with MY dress. I think it wasn't really dress regret I was feeling, more just FOMO. But I've seen some AMAZING alterations made by people to turn it into what you want. Give that a go. Worst case scenario, you can buy a super cheap 2nd dress online. Smiley smile I've heard of that working out really well for people too!

No way! That dress is amazing, and it suits you! I love the satin with the lace. It looks very soft and romantic. Imagine it with smoldering makeup and light, curly tendrils of hair!

You should see if you can return the skirt -did you get it custom-sized? You look really great. I look at pictures of me in the show room in my dress about once a week with love and affection, and I want that for you too.

    This dress is so beautiful!!
I did the same thing - bought my first dress on a whim and ended up selling it on a resale wedding site with the new tags still on and got a different one that really made me want to dance. Follow your heart!

I just stopped by to say that dress is simply stunning! I think it's incredibly flattering on you. Dress regret is real, I can sympathize with obsessing over tiny details of the dress. Give yourself a break from looking at it, and then come back to it with fresh eyes and if the skirt is still bothering you, maybe talk to a seamstress and see what she thinks can be done to it. It seems like a fairly easy fix to make the skirt more exaggerated mermaid silhouette.

BHLDN has dress separates that you could probably try on with the bodysuit but it seems like altering your current skirt would have the best result!

This dress is beautiful. Because you have so much detail going on the top I don’t really think you need a more dramatic skirt.

However this is YOUR wedding and YOUR dress. You want to feel your absolute best and if finding another skirt will make you feel the best on your wedding day, so be it!

    you look great tho !

Such good advice, thank you! I’m wondering if it is just FOMO as well.

Thank you and I agree. I feel like part of it is that I’m not picturing the finished product!

If it is, then don't be afraid to try on more dresses. Some times it's just a matter of getting it out of your system. Smiley smile
