Deadline annoyance [vent]

Sarah , on August 2, 2019 at 12:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
I know this is a problem everyone faces when wedding planning and one that I knew I was going to have to endure as well. However, I don't think that it would be to this level...
So today is/was our RSVP deadline and after counting the 3! Responses (the most we've received in one day) that were in the mail, we haven't even hit the half response mark. Even my own sister hasn't replied yet.
I'm wanting to see what shows up tomorrow and Saturday before I get really discouraged that I have to contact over half my guest list.
Anyone with similar experiences?

We did online RSVP's and we still have a LOT outstanding. Today (Thursday) was our deadline.

FH and I poked a LOT of friends over messenger, today, and now I have to poke my family (they are almost certainly no's, because Drama).

    It's honestly ridiculous.

Your deadline is a bit early for your wedding, if you're getting married on Sept. 20. It's ~7 weeks out, which is early for a lot of people to know if they can get the time off and make the other arrangements they'll need to make. That's likely one of the reasons your response rate is so low.

A number of people didn’t respond, and I gave it a little more time (maybe a week, I can’t remember) and then I reached out to the rest so I could get a head count for vendors and things like that. Then of course, some people who said they were coming never showed up!

I am having the same problem right now! I am still waiting for a bunch of rsvps, and this is making me anxious. I still have about less than a week left before my deadline, but I just want to get this done so I can move on to taking care of other stuff.

Yup. We invited 245, and only had 127 RSVP by the deadline. We had to do roughly 104 follow ups. I split the list up between my mom, my husband's mom, my husband, and myself. Out of the follow up calls, we had 64 "yes" and 40 "no." AND we still ended up having approx. 34 NO SHOWS. So annoying thinking about all of the money that was wasted.

Yes!!! Our deadline was July 19 and we barely had half back! We waited until about mid week the week after to start contacting people. So frustrating! So many stupid excuses as to why they hadn't sent it back yet. Ugh! Most of the people we didn't get one from said they are coming too!

From what I've read on these forums and heard from friends, it's super common for 25%-50% of your guest list to not RSVP until you reach out. We included addressed & stamped RSVP cards and envelopes in every invite and gave guests the opportunity to do it online. Guests had their invites for 6 weeks before they were due, and save the dates went out 10 months in advance. We still had to reach out to over 60 people.

I had that issue for sure. People are bad at rsvp'ing. Some people will even assume that no response means yes. Definitely follow up with people a few days after your RSVP deadline. You can ask people if they need more time to figure out their schedule if that's the case but definitely have a hard final deadline you'll need to Know by. Also some people end up never responding at all.
