DB bridesmaid dress alterations

Heather A, on April 3, 2014 at 11:41 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

Has anyone had your bridesmaid dress altered? On average how much were they?

One of my bridesmaids is actually a jr bridesmaid who was too big for jr bridesmaid dresses but too small for a size 2 so it needs to be taken in.

I feel bad making my aunt pay for alterations because I love te dress we picked even though it doesn't fit my cousin. So I think I want to pay alterations ad want to know what to expect price wise.

I had bought a dress there a few years ago for a wedding, however others had told me not to get it altered there. Typically you can find dozens of small businesses around town where people do the same thing, and often it can be much cheaper.

I think most box wedding shops jack up the price due to convenience (after picking up and trying on the dress there). I'd recommend looking at Yelp or Google reviews to determine if this is a good option or if others in the area do it better/cheaper.

I've had one that had to get altered. Hers was approximately $130. She has a badonkadonk and the dress size that fit her perfect everywhere else bunched up right at her bottom so she had to order a size up and then alter the rest of the dress down to make it look right.

I've had to get my dress altered each time I was a BM--apparently no designer makes a dress to fit someone with "birthing" hips and a flat chest. But I've never gone to DB. I was able to find a seamstress who does alterations out of her home and does a beautiful job. Mine have never been more than $40, and with like a two day turnaround. I would suggest getting quotes from several places before you settle on one place.

@Aftan - I had to sound out badonkadonk like 4 times before I figured out what it spelt. lol

But, my experiences with DB alterations/seamstresses have not been good ones - I was in a wedding 2 years ago, the dress was too big on the top and just right on the bottom - I too have a big butt...

The seamstress took in the dress so much all around that I ended up having to stand for the entire night - when I measured the dress at home and compared it to the original measurements and my current measurments, the dress was taken in way too much - like it was taken in 4 inches on the bottom - ugh!

But in regards to cost - To get it taken in and cups sewn in - cost me $200 - the dress was only $125....since I was new to town I didnt know of any other seamstresses.

Look around and find someone else to do the work

I was in a wedding with alterations there. Needed a hem an inch $50 for chiffon with two layers. My strapless top was a tiny tiny bit too lose they were going to take in the sides but wanted $50for it. I said no thank you and just word A bra with more padding. No problemo
