Daytime wedding timeline

Private User, on May 20, 2016 at 10:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi all!

I think I created what is a functional and realistic timeline for my wedding day. I am looking to hear the opinions/suggestions/recommendations/corrections (just about anything) of everyone who has done the same thing or can relate. My ceremony starts at 11:15 am followed by a cocktail hour from 12pm and reception (3 course) to follow with dancing. I am planning to start hair at 7am and makeup at 8 am. I figured I'd put on dress at 9. I am planning to leave at 930 I'll be about 20 minutes away so I would like to get there by 10 the very latest. Being a few steps away from the venue, line up for the ceremony at 11am. While guests move inside for cocktail, we can take more pictures on premises for 30-40 minutes. Once finished, we move up stairs to the reception and continue the night.

Anything you may think I should reconsider, would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you!

It's not bad, though I question a cocktail hour at that early of an hour. Maybe I'm just stodgy but that is far too early to start indulging in cocktails for me, and a 3-course meal sounds like an evening things vs. an early afternoon thing. I like your plan in general but that's just far too early in the day for me to drink (and no drinking means no dancing for me, lol).

Hi Elina, welcome to WW! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default icons) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other posters. You can do this on a desktop computer or a mobile browser (just not on the app) under My Settings and Profile and Privacy Settings.

Have you talked with your photographer and your hair and makeup people to see the length of time that they need? That will shape a lot of your pre-ceremony timeline!

@sarah, what time is your first look scheduled? And how long do you plan on taking pictures for before the ceremony?

I put my dress on right before the ceremony in the getting ready space at my venue. I don't think you need/ or want to be sitting around in your dress for two hours. Cocktail hour is totally fine, just do more brunch type drinks, think mimosas and bloody Marys. What are you serving for the meal? I would do brunch type foods if its so early. People will dance less and drink less during the daytime which is totally fine if that's what you want. I had an afternoon 1:00-6:30 wedding. People did end up dancing. I still felt pressed for time so a 11:15 start time sounds really rushed to me but it can be done. I'm confused by the phrase "continue the night". What time are you planning on having your wedding end? You are providing lunch so it should be wrapping up by dinnertime. People aren't going to want to hang around for much more than 5 hours. You can do an after party later but only expect those people that are staying nearby and that have energy to attend.
