David’s Bridal

Kristen, on July 22, 2019 at 2:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
I bought my dress in February under the assumption that it wouldn’t be here in time for my wedding (October 19th) if i didn’t get it that day. They told me it would take until at least May, it showed up in March. I’ve lost a significant amount of weight since then (4-5 dress sizes) and now the dress is HUGE on me and I’m not in a position to spend an arm and a leg on alterations. I checked online this morning and now the dress is in stock ready to ship in any size, so i feel really screwed over. I was forced to order early and now i don’t even know if the dress can be sized down that much. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Who knew a dress would cause so much trouble D:

I found that David's Bridal associates were really pushy about trying to get me to order the dress I liked, and even told me that I might need special sizing and to order it right then to ensure it came in time. I was really put off by it, so I totally understand your frustrations. And they have a sucky return policy too, so I don't know if you would be able to return/exchange your size.

I'd say look into the return/exchange policy first, then see if you have to look into alterations. Maybe ask around friends/family in the area if they know a trusted seamstress.

I would think if you’ve gone down 4-5 dress sizes that the dress would not be able to be altered that much. You could try selling the dress to see if you can get back some money that you paid towards it. If I were in your shoes, I would see about trying on dresses again with your new figure.

They may let you exchange it! But I would ask them ASAP since your wedding is coming up quickly! It doesn’t hurt to ask. And your situation isn’t like you picked the wrong one, like I did.

i had major dress regret with my first choice. My DB let me exchange it for merchandise credit but I basically had to spend the credit that same day. No big deal. My new dress was half the price, but I made up the difference with a slip, bra, my mom’s MOB dress and a preservation kit. Don’t know if I’ll use the preservation thing but I was honestly just so relieved to have a dress I actually liked!

I also was pushed to order a bit early but I kind of get it. It’s a big purchase and they want to cover this butts.

I’d give them a call or drop in ASAP. As long as the dress hasn’t been worn or altered, they should let you exchange it.

I would talk to David's Bridal about doing a size exchange. I'm sure if you didn't buy off the rack and no alterations have been made, it would be a wash for them.

I'd talk to David's bridal about it. They might be able to order you a new one.
In general I know after a few sizes the changes can't be made and the most I've seen listed is three.
I found DBs pushy also and found out after sitting in my closet for too long to change they ordered me a size down, but in my case a corset back and some excersize will fix it.

Like the others have said, try doing a size exchange. But in many times those estimates are based on production, especially if it's a brand new style.

Just like jewelry stores, bridal shops can be very pushy and will say almost anything to get you to buy then and there. If I were in your position, I'd contact them and just be very upfront and let them know I'm not happy with my experience thus far. Companies are usually good about undoing a bad experience and doing all that they can to make their customer happy. I'm sorry this happened though! Best of luck!!

That was going to be my suggestion too. When I got mine there they told me I could do that if I lost weight. I ordered mine June 5th and it was here by July 5th

They made me buy the preservation kit too. But yes i still have the dress in the garment bag with all tags still intact. I just wish i would have waited to purchase but like you said i might as well try to exchange.

Call them and ask about a one for one exchange. I’ve heard about david’s Bridal doing this in the event of weight loss, so, do it and don’t give up. If one branch tells you it’s not possible, contact another location.
