David's Bridal will not get any more of my $$

SAK2SAH, on August 28, 2017 at 8:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

So I had a terrible experience with David's Bridal, Flint, Mi. And I will not give them another cent of my money. I know this isn't a surprise to a lot of brides on here, and I only wish I had gone else where to purchase my gown. When I bought my dress back in January, they lied and told me my dress was only available off the rack. I found out later they were lying, just to sell the dress. They promised that dry cleaning would be included with alterations and everything would be perfect. To make a long story short, I went for alterations yesterday to find out not only did my alterations person, who had been there several years, has left and they were now double booked, but they don't actually do dry-cleaning. Needless to say, I went elsewhere.

Steaming your dress to get the wrinkles out? Yes. Dry cleaning? No. I've never had them say dry cleaning. David's Bridal is hit or miss. Depends on the store. Even if they are double booked they should still get your dress completed by the promised date.

OP, I hope you get a deal on the dress since it wasn't ordered new. I got my dress from DB & really didn't have much of an issue; but I know beforehand not to get it altered there. I was able to find an awesome, affordable seamstress...no regrets!

Had they only said steaming would have been fine. They 100% said dry-cleaning. When I went to my scheduled appointment it was double booked and the seamstress was nasty about it. When my mother walked up to see what was going on, she independently said the same exact thing that I had just told the woman, about dry cleaning. So I know I was not mistaken. Someone definitely told some lies to make a sale. I went elsewhere and will pay to have everything done that I was told DB was going to do, probably for less.

You will find the dress of your dreams I'm sure. I hope they refund you at least partially. I've never heard anything good about them and this solidified my decision to shop locally. A girl I went to high school with opened a bridal boutique and consignment shop and I'll check her's before shopping around the big stores. I'm a big fan of shopping locally, in the end corporations want profiting stores.

I got the dress for the same price as I would have had I ordered a brand new one online. I only wish I had known better at the time. This is why I'm sharing my experience, so hopefully others will read this and know to ask more questions. Also, when the woman I dealt with yesterday was stumbling over herself, she asked who checked me out when I bought my dress. I said hold on, I have my receipt. I went to grab for it and she said "oh, we can't tell who helped you with the receipt". When I got home and looked at my receipt, because I was curious now, there is a name on that receipt.

This sounds terrible. When I went dress shopping I specifically didn't want to go to DB because to me it seems more like a factory. Get as many in and out as you possibly can.

Hopefully you can salvage this situation or sell the dress for a new one. I hope all works out for you! Good luck!

I just took the dress to a different place for cleaning and alterations. I just don't appreciate the lies that were told to get me to buy it off the rack when I wanted a new dress (and had plenty of time to order one new).

OP David's Bridal definitely over charges for alterations. That I can promise you did the right thing. Contact corporate and tell them all of this. I had an issue with a DB here and contacted them and they took care of everything for me

When I got engaged I knew immediately that I wouldn't step foot in a David's Bridal. I've heard way too many horror stories to ever give them a cent of my money. Glad you're taking your dress elsewhere, OP!! Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I did write a lengthy letter to corporate. I'm not sure what they can do at this point, but I do want them to be aware of what is happening. If that is the corporate way, shame on them. If it's just a franchise owner policy, corporate needs to know.
