David's bridal rant

Sweet Lynn, on March 16, 2018 at 12:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
Okay so. I shouldn't complain. But im gonna anyway. 😏

I fell in love with my dress. It was incredibly over my initial budget for the dress but hey..It happens lol

Anyway. The manager at DB put such the pressure on about ordering. Payment needed to be in full before it was ordered. Obvi. She was like "oh I just checked...And you need to order TODAY because it's not due to come back until end of August and you'll need alterations and this sale price ends sunday" (this was a few weeks ago on a saturday) i was like ahhh. Pressure. So the following week I went and paid it off.

She goes oh Great! It'll be here by May 14. I'm like 😒 I was told August. But I bit my tongue.

Fast forward two weeks. Guess who just got an email that my dress was delivered in store and is ready for pick up. 😒

I mean yay that it's here but c'mon.... way to put the pressure on DB. It worked on this bride. Lol good thing I love the dress.

Mine came way quicker than they quoted as well but I'd rather it be early than arrive too late!

Honestly, I think they say that so they don't get bridezilla'd if the dress does take a few months. My consultant didn't pressure me at all, but she mentioned as we were checking out that the estimated arrival was June 6. I ordered it February 19. It came in yesterday.

I can't say I blame the manager. The turnover rate for dress styles is incredibly high. There are only a few that stick around for longer than a season (if that), and even then they are discontinued because of different fabric, lace pattern, colour, or even an improved base pattern.

Also, you never know when the warehouse is going to back up on orders so it's best to play it safe.

I ordered my dress locally in September 17- they told me it wouldn’t be in until March 18’. They emailed me in October 17’ and told me my dress was in lol
map I ended up paying them 50$ to keep it in storage and insured until The end of July because I’m a worrier and I didn’t want it to discolor (not sure if that’s still a thing but my moms dress discolored over time) or anything

That was my one complaint about DB, they told me my dress would come in 16 weeks and it was ready in 2. I get that they'd rather overestimate but that's a HUGE difference!

Omg! I had the same thing happen to me!!! Unfortunately, I am not 100% in love with the dress and I was pretty upset about how anxious she made me feel. I was set to stick to my plan and wait a bit longer to shop around before making a decision, but my parents paid for it behind my back as a surprise! I felt so sick for the next 2 weeks that I actually cried when I picked up the dress.

I used to work at DB and I swear those are the dates the system tells them. I think it way overestimates to keep brides from flipping out if there is a delay. I never lied to a bride about the estimated time, and they were almost always months early. NOT my favorite part of working there. (Not my least favorite either lol)

It's typical sales crap. I fell for the same thing. "Special deal sales price on my dress, they NEVER go on sale!" I've watched it go $100, $200 (+free veil), and $400 less than I paid just a month ago. My fault, I got sucked in. I'm a little salty, but it's done and I love my dress. I am tempted to comment every time I see a new "Special" pop up on the store's Facebook page though.

I’m sorry but this is how sales and commission works. Everytime I’ve shopped for a car, appliances, mattresses, jewelry i just so happen to come in on the last day of the sale. It’s a sales tactic used everywhere.

I've worked at David's and the commission is almost nothing. There is no reason to lie to a bride for pennies. I think what other commenters say is true: The date given is the GUARANTEED date, but it often comes in earlier. The system says the date, sales people don't make that up.

I went to DB as well and no pressure from my consultant I ordered it on NYE and it came in 2/6. Originally it shouldn't have been here until 3/25 (I only remember the dates because it came in on one for my bridesmaids birthdays and the originally date was mine) she actually said I didn't need to order until March but my mother put the pressure on me (I feel like I have dress regret only because I didn't try on more dresses but I also can't stop looking at pictures of my dress... I'm such a spaz)

Anyways I think they probably just come in faster but quote you longer just in case something happens?

I had the absolute worst experience with David's Bridal which I won't even get into but I was told my dress would take 6 months to come in and 3 days after ordering it arrived. I thought they were joking and pulled a used one off the racks.

That is how they make money....commission. Just like car dealers. The mark up for bridal and all things wedding is insane because they know they got you!

My dress was ordered in February and came in August. Not from David's though.

Mine came in when they told me it would. It's not dbs fault it's the warehouse, style, size, etc. Plus size will take longer then a size 8. The sales person will not lie to you, they tell you what the system says. The warehouse just may have more then the system says. That happens in any warehouse type business.

I can’t really blame them for this though. I was told my dress would take 3 months to come in, but it was in in 1 month. I also tried to order a bridesmaid dress 5 months out, but was told because of the size (a size 4, I thought was a pretty common size) it had to be custom cut and wouldn’t come in in time.

Same with me (not at a DB). I ordered December 6th and was told it would be in early April, but they said if I waited until later in the month or even January to order it wouldn't arrive until June (for August wedding). So of course I ordered and it came in Feb 17th and I was not mentally prepared! Lol

Hi! i used to work at David's. When there is a dress you like and a stylist looks it up in the system, it gives them an estimated arrival date, so they don't make that up. Unfortunately, some brides think that is a sales tactic so when they come back and try to order their dress, the system David's uses will not let a stylist order it if the arrival date is after the wedding, so bride's tend to get really upset and throw a fit even though they were told the time estimate when they came in. If they come early, that's amazing! But they don't always. So, in my opinion, David's does the right thing by telling you their estimated time because it's better something comes early than late.
