Davids Bridal Rant with a happy ending!

Michelle, on May 28, 2019 at 7:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

I ordered my dress from Davids Bridal. I always dreamed that I would be in a ballgown. But I tried on a mermaid and I looked sooooooooooooo good in it, curves were popping, waist looked small lol, so I got the mermaid. Then I started to have dress regret lol. But the dress was paid for so I was like oh well. Then they called and said my dress was in. I went to pick it up. They asked if I wanted to try it on. Mind you, this dress is heavy lots of ruffles, extended train, corset back. Not one person helped me to get it on, lace me up nothing! I waited 10 min with no clothes on and asked for help twice. I heard the girl up front tell someone I needed help. Nothing. Then I asked a third time, still nothing. I get dressed and go get a manager. Meanwhile, while I'm waiting I start to inspect the dress. The ruffles/material is coming apart at the seams. thread/strings everywhere. You know how you pull a string off of a sock or the arm of a tshirt and it keeps unraveling????? it was like that! I had told the manager that started helping me that I want a new dress, this doesn't look new. I specifically special ordered a dress so I would not get one out of the store, tried on used etc. I want to exchange it, not a refund just exchange. She agreed but said we usually don't usually do that let me check with the manager of returns. That manager tried told her to tell me that all of those dresses come like that. I told her to tell her that's a lie and she needs to come out and talk to me. She refused. I told her I am not leaving until she lets me exchange my dress. I din't pay $800 for a dress that is coming apart. She still didn't come out to see me but finally agreed for the exchange. I tried on 3 more dresses similar to the mermaid I had but with thicker ruffles and in one of them I felt really good. I was smiling and like it better than the original dress. But then it happened. The last and final dress, a ball gown with half sleeves. You know how they say you get that feeling when it's the one??? Well I definitely got that feeling. There were two other brides and their families there. They said stop that's it don't try on anything else. And when they said that another consultant came and said yassssssss gurrrrrlllllll that is it! Try this veil and sash with it and when I did that was just double confirmation!!!!! But then I realized how much the dress was and it was $1000 more than my dress ugggggg. So I got sad. But I knew that was it. I didn't want to spend that but I did get $250 off yesterday was the last day for that promo so I guess I lucked up!!! You only live once right???? lol I'm still smiling it's so beautiful and perfect for my NYE wedding!!!

I purposely did not go to David's Bridal, but I'm glad you were able to resolve the issue before you took it out of the store.

Me Too lol, and I started not to go there but I moved from a big city to a little town so I really didn't have too many options unless I drove 2-3 hours and I didn't want to do that

I worry about dress regret but I try to think that the dress I bought is beautiful and as long as I don't try other dresses, I'm good.

When I was going out dress shopping I avoided David's Bridal. My co-worker told me that she had a horrible experience there (with no one to help her). I ended up trying dresses on at two bridal boutiques and at Macy's bridal. I ended up with a dress from Macy's!

My original reason for avoiding David's Bridal was because I didn't want a "cookie cutter dress." I went to DB in 2007 for my bmaid's dress for my cousin's wedding and again in 2012 for my MOH dress for my sister's wedding. And you know what? THEY STILL CARRIED THE SAME EXACT DRESSES! When it was my turn to get married, I was like, "no thank you!" I even had my bmaids go to Azazie. (Azazie is a bit cookie cutter, but is less known and better quality.) Then I heard some horror stories.

I saw the same thing too. Everywhere they were advertised, they always had the same dresses. I didn't want a cookie cutter dress. One of the dresses from there I have in 2 different colors. I wore a red one to a black tie white coat ball, and the other one was purple that I wore as a bridesmaid for my friends wedding.

So glad you ended up with what you wanted. Isn't it a shame you have to go through so much trouble to get people to do the right thing??

I know! But, like, after six years, you'd think they'd change their inventory or something!
