David's Bridal Fiasco, Wrong Color

Laura, on May 8, 2016 at 1:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

Hi beautiful brides,

I was wondering if anyone had this happen to them. David's Bridal ordered one of my bridesmaids the wrong color. To make it worse, the style is being discontinued and the correct color (in ANY OTHER dress style) WILL NOT come in time for the wedding. It took five months to produce a plus size, 30 bridesmaid dress. I had oversight over all my bridesmaids transactions to make sure it would come in the right color. It came in dusty rose pink (Ballet) rather than a bright blue (Malibu)... Not even remotely close. Right now we're scrambling to have her dress custom made from my tailor.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I found out this happened to two of my friends who got married last year.

If it was their mistake shouldn't they fix it? ETA: they have over 3 months, they should be able to rush it. If it was truly their mistake, and not a bridesmaid ordering the wrong color.

Yeah, my entire wedding party pushed for them to fix their error but their manager kept showing us that since it's discontinued they cannot get us another. But also, when I asked if they could get ANY Size 30 in Malibu they said it don't come in time even. The only thing they offered us was a full refund though. Smiley sad

You should ask the manger to speak to whoever is above them. Is there like a general DB hotline? This isn't right that the manager isn't helping you. This was their mistake and it's not acceptable whatsoever. You should get a refund on that dress and it rushed for free. I'm a hard head when it comes to this stuff Smiley smile

Also if I remember correctly, someone posted about having this same issue a couple of months ago!!!

I would raise hell and make them fix it. Their mistake not yours.

Oh this would not fly for me! Especially if it was truly their mistake. I agree with PP about asking the manager to speak to someone higher up. I'm sorry this happened to you.

They should be rush ordering a dress in Malibu at no extra charge to you. I would contact corporate or go into another store to speak with a different manager.

Sorry this happened to me as well. My sister found a dress she loved, ordered it and then they ordered it in the wrong color before finding out that it was discontinued. For anyone who knows DB colors, they were supposed to order plum and instead ordered regency.

Sounds like you already have a plan B in process but can you take a color swatch of the blue to another bridal boutique and see if another designer might have a matching color in a plus size option? Then make David's Bridal pay for the rush order on that dress plus the difference in cost. Or if you wanted to be super risky you could talk to your seamstress about dying all of the dresses a different color to match but that would probably give me a heart attack.

I really feel that David's Bridal has to be some sort of scam. They're a gigantic chain with warehouses filled with carbon copies of standard size dresses that can be dyed whatever color they're offering. I don't understand why dresses need to take 5 or more months to arrive. They probably have a zillion pallets from China of the dresses you need, same with the junk jewelry from Kay's, Zales, Jarred, etc etc etc.

Contact corporate, I got a wrong dress for a friends wedding and was able to contact the regional coordinator to get a new one shipped at no charge.

That's awful. It's good your getting a full refund but that's very stressful.

I would only suggest this in extreme cases, but go to social media. Tweet/leave FB messages about the situation and how disappointed you are in DB. Big companies have entire departments or even firms dedicated to protecting their brand and providing customer service via social media. It sounds like your local store made a mistake and is not willing to do the legwork required to fix it. Corporate will likely have a different view and if they are smart, they'll make it right quickly. I'm sorry this happened to you, but it's good that you at least are working on a plan b in the meantime. Best of luck!

I haven't had a good experience with them either. I would go above the store to corporate or somewhere on social media. Hopefully you get it figured out!!

I would be calling cooperate and freaking out until they fixed it.

This happened to one of my friends a few years ago at DB- it was a 2 piece dress and one piece of the dress came in, in the wrong color. So she clashed for the wedding and there was nothing they could do for her

They can put a rush order and push it to get here within a month. I was a bridesmaid and we had a issue like this before and they made it happen and paid for the tailoring because it was their mistake

They can have dresses within a week. My best friend's daughter ordered a wedding dress from DB a few weeks ago. They told her it would take two months. She didn't rush it or anything because her wedding isn't until next August, but the dress was in exactly one week later.

I'd go above the manager and keep going up until you get someone who can give you an acceptable answer. Someone can.

You could also tell them you're going to your local consumer reporter if you need to. My sister works for our local CBS news channel and has had many "unfixable" problems suddenly fixed when she mentions that she knows the consumer reporter and she'll be giving him a call.

Go above the store manager. There are district and regional managers that will hopefully be more helpful. It's not your mistake and it shouldn't be your problem to fix, they should be doing everything they can to fix their mistake.

Oh my gosh, yes this happened to me! It was a nightmare. The lady at the store wrote down the wrong color (she wrote lavender, they came in as a greyish dusty lavender, my color is bright purple). The owner was blaming me saying I didn't look at swatches, etc. even though they carried the exact dress in the style and color I wanted. We were too close to the wedding to reorder everyone's size and get the correct dress. So they gave us stock dresses from a few stores in all the wrong sizes and gave us no discount. Long story short, it was an awful stressful situation. I hope yours gets figured out painlessly!!

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having issues with them. If you cant get it, see if you can still get it online! They told me my style was also being "discontinued" and so sizes were sparse. Online on the DB site, however, there was still a decent selection and most sizes were quick ship.
