David's Bridal: Dress comes in petite but normal size ordered

PaperCrane, on April 25, 2016 at 9:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

I went to David's Bridal Saturday and found my dress! I'm 5'3" though and the sales lady ordered a regular size. I didn't know it was available in petite sizes and she never mentioned it. I was wearing a pair of shoes from the store with a 4 inch heel and the dress was still a couple inches too long. Do you think there's any chance they'll let me exchange it for the petite size? I probably won't need any alterations if they let me exchange. The receipt does say final sale, BUT I had trouble deciding between ivory and white and she said I could change it when the dress comes in. I'm just worried they'll push me to get it altered.

The dress is lace and I've heard bad things about altering lace dresses.

I'm not sure they have a petite size. I'm 5'2 and my dress was the perfect length in 6 inch heels I refuse to alter it because of the detail work and the train because I've heard the same as u but they didn't offer me a petite size either.

I am 5'2" and definitely needed my dress hemmed- didn't think to ask for it in petite size. You should probably just call them and ask what your options are.

Also, please change your avatar to something other than the rings (this is different from the background pic on the app). It will help you get more responses to your posts, help other brides get to know you, and it makes the threads easier to read. Every DB is different but I can tell you that I walked in with a longline bra and a crinoline that I bought a few weeks ago and asked to refund them (not exchange, refund) and they gave me my money back with no questions asked. Call and ask!

ETA: if you wear a hoop/crinoline under it, those inches might disappear.

I, too, am 5'3" and I DID order the petite. It was the perfect length if I am barefoot. Fortunately, my seamstress is fantastic and we used the satin layer under my train to add a ruffle at the bottom to make it longer. Now I can wear my 3.5" wedges and it won't be too short. Hemming is MUCH easier than adding length. The petite length in the DB dresses is 3 inches shorter.

This dress definitely comes in petite (http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_a-line-side-split-wedding-dress-with-all-over-lace-7yp3344). I'm kind of afraid to call. Talking on the phone gives me anxiety, especially when I'm not sure how they'll respond.

The 4 inch heels I was wearing weren't bad, but I don't think I could go any higher. I'd be taller than FH lol

I've tried changing my avatar a couple times and it's not holding. I'll try it again.

According to the website, the petite size is 4 inches shorter. Since it was still too long with 4 inch heels, I could still wear (shorter) heels.

This was also with a medium fulness slip.

I actually had a similar issue. I'm only 5', and had very high heels on when trying on dresses. I saw that they had petite sizes after the fact. I called to see if I should have gotten that instead since I'm short and she was asking how the bodice fit in the regular sizes. Well, the bodice of the regular size dress was perfect.

I don't know the validity of this, but they told me at the time that the petite sizes are not only shorter length but also are shorter in the torso. So, I ended up sticking with the regular size for fear of having something that won't fit. I am a little worried because my dress is lace, and I haven't gotten it hemmed. Here's hoping it works itself out.

I read somewhere that the torso is smaller, but then in the reviews for my dress someone said they got the petite because the only difference was the length.

I just remembered I need bustle points too so I guess I will need something done regardless. I just wish I had checked how long it actually is. And it didn't occur to me before today that the shoes I was wearing make me the same height as FH. I love being shorter than him.

When we got bridesmaids dresses from Alfred Angelo, they advised us that they make the torso shorter for petite. Call them and ask. You don't want to change it and risk something not fitting properly.
