Davids bridal credit card

So they like this card to be pushed to brides to pay for their dresses and whatever else they end up needing (alterations, undergarments. .yada yada) I just wondering what the experience is with using it. Just curious.

Personally, I have not had any negative affects on my credit from opening this credit card. I have great credit & monitor it regularly (to make sure it stays that way) & it has not changed at all. I always pay off these types of things before interest ever hits & have found it works for me without any downfalls. I have even been advised to do these small types of charge accounts occasionally since I don't have lots of debt & it shows I can pay things off & actually improves my credit rating. Maybe it is different for people with different credit scores. Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about (always a possibility!).

I'd choose to open a new rewards card instead of DB. If you have the money to pay your dress off right away, maybe open a card like Capital One Venture. If you spend $3000 in the first 3 months, you basically get yourself enough miles for a free plane ticket. It's not interest free though, which is why I stress only getting it if you have the money to pay it off right away. I opened one and got the reward and FH is going to open one when it's time to make another large deposit so the plane tickets for our honeymoon are essentially paid for. Smiley smile

@Wolf In short, it’s safe to occasionally (and smartly) use your credit as it indicates you are a responsible and trustworthy consumer. Inactivity/zero balance could potentially lower your score but is not damaging in the way that closing an account or opening up new ones regularly.

This article will better explain it, but here is a relevant paragraph:

“To sum up, a zero balance isn't necessarily a bad thing for your score, but having no balances on all of your credit cards in any given month could knock off a few points. Continued nonuse of a card could eventually prompt the issuer to close the account or stop sending updates to the major credit reporting agencies, which could affect utilization. Issuers, like your credit score, want to see some transaction activity.”

But you should consult your financial advisor (if you have one) for a more detailed explanation. You should also utilize the free credit report that you are, by law, entitled to each year from the three major credit agencies so that you can see how your credit use and spending have impacted your rating.

Man. I've been to David's Bridal 5 times total now, 4 of which a purchase has been made. Not one offered lay away OR a credit card.

I have seen the offers for credit card on a sticker on the mirrors on the doors for dressing rooms though. I will say that their interest rate is fucking ridiculous.

Also I have several store credit cards and my credit score is excellent. I just don't close them. So I guess for a bridal store when you only really use it maybe 5 times total it's not the best idea.

@Tonya, you are correct in stating that the credit experience will be different for different people. By your own words, you are a smart and conscientious consumer and with full knowledge of your financial position; you are making your credit work for you, rather than against you.
