David’s Bridal Appointment

Morgan, on February 2, 2018 at 1:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 15
Hi everyone!
So, I am trying to plan my entire wedding on my own one decent budget, and I’m looking for some advice. This Saturday, I have an appointment with David’s Bridal to try on some wedding dresses and get a feel of what style I like/looks good on my figure.

I do not have plans to purchase a dress on Saturday, but definitely will be purchasing one soon. Do you think this will effect my appointment? Has anyone else shopped at DB and not purchased the same day? I have heard mixed reviews on the company, and would appreciate everyone’s feedback!

Thank you!!!

I had an appointment at David’s and did not buy a dress, and my consultant was perfectly fine with it! I simply just didn’t find “the one” there, but if you do, don’t feel as though you need to buy it right then and there! Let your consultant know at the beginning so she knows your game plan, but other than that, just because you have an appointment, that doesn’t mean you need to purchase a dress that same day! You can totally use appointments to try on dresses to see what you like and what styles look best on you before making that big purchase! Good luck and have fun dress shopping! 😊

I hated davids bridal the girl there was very rude and not very helpful at all.. I knew what dresses i wanted to look at. They didnt have them or the bridesmaids dresses i was interested in. I tried a few on and she wanted to write down numbers and order when i said no im not ordering and that was is she walked away. And i left went to a local dress shop for my girls a few months later and then waited till oct of this yr and found mine while out food shopping..

Do some research online first. Pick out styles you like so they are easier to find in store. Otherwise you can be overwhelmed by the huge stock they carry. After a bit they start to look the same.

I'd recommend making a weekday appointment if it gets too pressured. It will not only ease your mind, but you will have the full attention of your consultant.

I found my dress at David's Bridal and the staff working with me was amazing and very helpful. I went without a good idea of what I wanted. I had a pintrest board of dresses I liked, but wasn't sure what I would like once I had them on. The attendant was very helpful and listened to me and my feedback about each dress to help me find the perfect dress. I found a dress that I really liked, but was not ready to fully commit to it. I had the information for that dress written down and left without purchasing a dress. I came back a week later after having time to think about it and look at the pictures and tried on the same dress again. The same attendant assisted me and putting the dress on for a second time with the veil was what did it for me and made me tear up just imagining me on my wedding day in the dress. I really enjoyed David's Bridal, but I understand that the staff members are different every where you go and it could be hit and miss. I wish you luck for your appointment and I hope you find a dress you like. Don't be afraid to be blunt and picky about the dresses you try on. I was "picky" when trying on dresses because they just didn't feel "right", and I couldn't put my finger on what it was that wasn't working for me.

DB seems to be hit or miss depending on the location. My visit was so bad I didn’t even try anything on. Two other stores were fine that I didn’t buy that day.

I agree it's hit or miss depending on the location and the consultant. I've been to 3 different appointments there for 2 different weddings. 1) The bride was just shopping around and had no intention of buying anything. She told the consultant that and we were left alone to try on as many wedding and bridesmaids dresses as we wanted. She came and checked us occasionally but mostly saw to her other customers. She just left a dressing room off to the side unlocked for us. It worked out just fine for us. 2) Same bride. We were shopping for bridesmaids dresses with all the bridesmaids. It was the same consultant and she stayed right with us that day. She offered suggestions, got us different sizes, and help zip up dresses. She also knew we were there to buy that day. 3) Different bride. I was MOH and there to help pick out her wedding dress. The consultant was with us the entire time. She was in the fitting room with the bride to get her in the dress. She ran to get different sizes. She got different dresses to try. She even went and got shoes, jewelry, veils, etc to go with the dresses.

My advice-if you are set on not purchasing but still want that personal touch, don't tell the consultant you don't plan to buy. They tend to go off and take care of other customers if they know up front there won't be a sale. Like I said, we were ok with being left on our own but I saw other people who weren't so happy about it. Good luck and have fun!

I shopped at DB and didn't purchase my dress the same day. I chose it, but I wanted to sleep on it. It didn't affect my appointment at all! My consultant even told me not to feel pressured to purchase that day. I will say I had better luck with a weekday appointment though. It was way less busy. I had my alterations done at DB too. I had a great experience with them.

Agree about not saying anything one way or the other about your plans for a same-day purchase. Just try everything on, giving feedback along the way about what you like and don't like. If, by chance, you find "the one," at the end of the appointment you can just say you need to sleep on it and ask the consultant you've been working with what their schedule is so you can come back to purchase. We did this. The consultant tried to schedule for the next day, but we said, "no, how about the following week?" During that week, daughter found a dress elsewhere and cancelled the follow-up appointment, but it worked fine. However, realize a Saturday in DB is going to be CRAZY busy. If there is any way you could go during an off-time, I would definitely reschedule. Good luck!

Just don’t let them know you’re not planning on buying. And then say you’re not ready to pull the trigger and that you’ll need to think about it before you leave. They’re used to it.

Ha, I went to 3 appointments with David’s bridal and I still didn’t purchase there. I actually found my exact same dress online $200 less. That’s the one I bought. The thing is to not let them pressure you. One consultant made me feel pressured and the other 2 were super casual. I actually tried on a couple newer dresses she hadn’t seen on anyone yet.

It appears every DBs is different. I had a great experience. Other people had horrible experiences. Weekends are usually the worst days to go because your consultant will be running between you and possibly 2-3 other brides. If you want more 1:1 attention reschedule for a week night.

I had plans to not buy my dress right away, let alone at Davids but then I fell in love. Then they told me about the payment plan and I was able to order my dress sooner than anticipated. They have a great layaway option where you put 25% down and have 60 days to pay.

I had a pretty good experience there. It helped to get an idea of what looks good on me and what does nothing for me. I didn’t like any of the dresses I tried on but it helped to break the seal. It was low pressure for me since I knew I wanted to go to other shops. It also helped my mom see that mermaids, though they be a bit dramatic at times, look really good on dem curves! 😂 good luck!!! Not sure your style but I love these places: BHLDN, brides for a cause and Nordstrom.
