David's Bridal Alterations????

Samantha, on January 15, 2020 at 12:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
I finally said Yes to Dress on Sunday!!! I'm so in love with this dress! Only like is I want to get the bodice filled in(likes the second picture) and it needs to be hemmed a couple inches. How have your experiences with DBs alterations been? How is the price???
Don't mind my face I was balling my eyes out before hand!

I haven't heard the best things about David's Bridal so I'd get quotes elsewhere too. Your dress is very pretty!

I didn’t get my bodice altered, but my dress was 5 layers and it was $200 for the hem, $20 for bra inserts, $39 for the cap sleeves added, and $99 for the bustle.

I've heard DB alterations can get pretty pricey. I'd do what PP said and get quotes before committing to their services.

My friend bought her dress from David's Bridal and had her alterations done there. She didn't tell me the cost of alterations, but she said they cost almost as much as her dress and her dress was around 800. So I think they can be pricey, i would get quotes from other places as well.

I'm having corset turned to zipper, hem, and swapping out a belt that is sewn in. Total cost is $450.

Seeing the prices of some of these services is mind boggling. I didn’t get my dress at DB or have alterations done by them. I will say that I was able to order my dress with the length I wanted it to be (shoes on of course) for like $50 more. I didn’t want to risk losing some of the pretty lace at the bottom of my train. I went to a woman who does alterations that was recommended by the bridal store. I got cups for $25 dollars and two bustles for $50. I had two layers that needed a bustle each. I would shop around for prices for sure!

I had my alterations done there. They were pricey. However, I had a week...literally bought my dress off the rack two weeks before my wedding. They had it altered and ready with one week to go. So yes pricey, but it all came out right and it was quick. I had a hem, (gown was lace edged), bustle, and a little taking in around the waist/butt area. And a modesty panel.

Alterations can be expensive and I was always told expect to pay almost half of what your dress cost for alterations. I payed almost $3000 for my dress plus $300 for my veil and here is the invoice for my alterations which is at almost $800 so you can see the cost for the different tailoring needs.David's Bridal Alterations???? 3

Thank you for this. I need to get alterations and my dress is at DB. I too was worried about the cost. I budgeted to spend around $200.

I am going to need the hip area taken out a bit bc im a curvy hippie woman. lol , and the bodice taken in a bit....May add some spaghetti straps to match the beading on the dress, idk yet.

I'd second what others say about getting quotes elsewhere before committing, especially if there are well reviewed seamstresses in your area. In my experience bringing garments directly to a tailor is almost always less expensive than having it done in house at the shop you buy it from and the quality is usually better as well. I find they can sometimes work on a shorter time frame too (without charging a ridiculous rush fee). The advantage to having it done at the store is that it can be more convenient than having to bring it to a different location, if you buy a bridesmaids dress manufactured by David's then they should have an exact thread match if you need to have alterations done where stitching would be visible, and if they screw it up badly enough then they should reorder you a brand new dress at no charge.

My MOH got her dress at David's and I'll encourage her to look into having alterations done at a tailor. She will likely only need cups added, which should be a super quick and inexpensive alteration, and I'm pretty sure David's will overcharge for that and it will take way longer than if she went to a tailor.

I haven't looked into DB for alterations, but I'd agree with what everyone's saying and suggest getting quotes from multiple places. But, you look great in your dress! So glad you found one you love.

I am having my dress let out, zipper put in instead of the corset, 50 fake buttons put down the back, a belt sewn in, and my bustle all for $320 which I thought was a good price.
