David's Bridal Alterations

April, on March 4, 2020 at 9:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

I purchases my dress about a year ago from David's Bridal. I never made an alteration appointment as my wedding is August of this year. I want to know how many months before the wedding I should make my first alteration appointment at David's Bridal. I can't seem to find anything on their website with this answer, but I know a bunch of brides here have also purchased and altered at David's.

For reference- my gown has a hunch of tulle layers which will need to be hemmed, along with added a bustle and adjusting the straps on my spaghetti strap style dress.

I just purchased my dress with them and the alterations manager came out and told me to have it fitted for alterations in August of next year (my wedding is in November), but to make the appointment for August in June due to their high volume of clients they get. So she said to schedule for 2 months out and allow for 3 months for alterations. We only have 2 David’s Bridals in CT, so the two we do have get very busy. Yours may be different depending on their volume.

I just ordered my bridesmaid dress from David’s bridal for my sisters wedding. They told me that they are super busy right now and that when they call that my dress is in to make my apt that same week because they are 3 month out doing alterations. I would call the alterations dept and see if they have a high volume or how long it would take. I would do it sooner than later just to be safe.

I would plan on making it for at least 3 months out. Also, make sure you go on a weekday early in the day your first time. It took three times for me to finally get someone who could help me with things like hemming and the cups. So be prepared for some back and forth - some DBs may be better than others but you never know. The first lady who looked at my dress was a hot mess and almost ruined it.

We're coming up on prom season, as well as spring wedding season. So, I would call now and make sure you can get an appointment. They will be able to tell you how long they need, and when is the best time to come in. Probably no later than June for an August wedding.

My wedding is July 11th and my first alterations appointment is May 2nd. I did do it a little bit early because they told me to allow 6 - 8 weeks from first fitting to picking up your dress and I wanted to have a little bit of cushion time in there.
