David's Bridal Alterations

Tattooed Bride , on June 6, 2017 at 11:13 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

Has anyone purchased their dress from David's Bridal and gotten it altered there? If so how much did you pay for alterations. I am going in two weeks to pick up my dress and I wanted to know if it is best to get it altered there or seek out someone else. I know I will be adding a corset back but I am not sure of alterations just yet.

I bought mine there and had alterations. I loved the ladies I worked with, and the turn around was fantastic. I also had a corset added.

Mine was about $300 for a bustle and corset back.

@ Kirstie819 - She's asking how much did it cost for your alterations.

I too have considered getting it taken in a bit, as it is just a tiny bit loose around the hips

I got my dress from DB and had the alterations done there because FH was skeptical about taking it elsewhere.

I paid $240 for having my dress hemmed (damn thing had SEVEN layers), train taken off, and the shoulders taken up. It wouldn't have cost as much if there hadn't been so many layers.

While looking at dresses, I never even thought of seeing how many layers a dress had. However, I would advise anyone to be aware just so you know what category of hemming you'll fall into.

Also, on the pamphlet they most likely gave you, it gives their rates for adding things like a corset back. I threw mine away after alterations, or I would send you a pic. The pamphlet is pink (or at least it was in January) and is included in the little bag they give with deo, tooth paste, and catalogs of dresses and tuxes.

I paid around $350 for hemming, bustle, adding fake buttons to the back where the zipper is, and attaching a belt to the dress. My bustle was the most expensive - she did two bustles...one for the lining of my dress, and one for the layers of tulle on top.

Alterations are going to very from person to person based on the dress and what needs to be done, just FYI

I've heard alterations could be expensive. Can you get an estimate from another place before going in?

I paid $65 to take the bust in at DB. I don't know how that price is compared to other places.

It's difficult to judge this question because as pp have said, it just depends on the layers of your dress. I'm having my hem taken up in front so I don't trip and a bustle formed in back. My estimate by DB was $260. Literally no other alterations. On normal dresses, a hem would be about $45, but this is wedding territory. And I was also told, DB is not responsible it they ruin your dress. Apparently that is part of the alterations contract. It never hurts to shop around if you have time.

Yikes, this is all starting to make me concerned. I need the hem taken up quite a bit, a ribbon and brooch added around the waist and a possible bustle in the back.
