David's Bridal Alterations, thoughts?

Maryanne, on May 23, 2019 at 12:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I recently purchased my dress from David's and I LOVE it. We ordered it in my size, so the alterations are minimal - it will just need to be hemmed most likely. I do however want to attach a belt to the waist of the dress and add satin buttons all the way do the back of the dress. I purposely kept the dress budget low for these alterations and additions. I do not have experience with David's alterations department except for one bridesmaid dress (which is a miracle considering I've been a bridesmaid 6 times) and I wasn't thrilled with the results. I am hesitant to trust them with this large of a project on this important of a dress. Does anyone have any experiences they can share? Has anyone had the buttons added by David's? Thank you!

I too purchased my dress from David's and when it came in I was so excited I decided to go with it and let them do the alterations. Biggest waste of 400$...my dress is currently at another tailor being altered. After my 4th appointment...I finally accepted my dress and went elsewhere. I requested an addition to the top of the dress, when I first arrived it was not the material discussed. That had to be cut out and replaced with the material we previously discussed, when I went back they had sewn the piece in crooked to start and rumpled (I think that's the best way to describe it). I showed them the piece was crooked and rumpled she took it back to "fix it" and then brought it back to me...the material was still rumpled/bunched when it should have laid flat. When I attempted to point this out to her, she told me it was me not their alterations. When I took the dress to the new tailor; I put the dress on...she walked up...and said "what is this?!"...I had not said one word to her about my complaints or what I needed fixed. I should have known better after reading other horror stories about them on this site...but I did it anyway. My advice, find yourself another place that is highly recommended and stay away. I am now out the 400$ I paid David's and the almost 300$ I'm paying the new lady to "fix" the issue they created.

$400?! That's almost as much as I paid for my dress. That is insane! I have been reading horror stories about them, and the more I read the more terrified I become.

I have always heard David’s Bridal charges a ridiculous amount for alterations. A local seamstress gave me an estimate around $89 for my dress so I would recommend going somewhere else for sure!

Yes they quoted me $450+ for my dress to be hemmed & to add a bussell on the back. I was like whhhhhhat! I may just take it to another alteration company

That seems to be the theme with David's. I have a lady who did an AMAZING job on a bridesmaid dress, so I am thinking about taking my dress to her. At least if she charges me $300 I know it's going to a small business and not a corporation.

I will add that I had a really great experience shopping for and buying my dress at David's Bridal. But I too have heard the horror stories about their alterations department. I think even if they weren't bad, their prices for alterations are way too high!!! Even in a high cost of living area like where I live, it shouldn't cost as much as the dress! Ridiculous!!

I am currently searching for a local seamstress in my area to take my alterations to.

I bought my dress from David's bridal but after seeing how they ruined my cousins dress. I did not go there. They also told me with my weight loss it would be close to 500 dollars! And but I remembered the horrible experience my cousin had with them and went through a family member on my fh side. I paid her a 100 dollars and she did an amazing job on my dress.. it's not worth wasting the money if they have a history of not doing the job right!

Oh that's great news! At least you know that they will do a great job if they have already worked on some of your BM dresses! 😊
