Davids Bridal Alterations cost question. Too high? 1

Davids Bridal Alterations cost question. Too high? 2
Hi all! I had a question about David's Bridal alterations. I was quoted 850$ to shorten my sleeves, add a 2 point bustle, bring in the waist, and line the front of the bodice.

Based on other people's experience and my own digging this seems insanely high! The bustle is the most expensive piece due to the trains length and layers, but this overall estimate seems excessive.
I've spoken to other local seamstresses who quoted me far less for the busstle and sleeves(200&dollarSmiley winking but said they can't do the waist due to the lace nor can line the bodice.
I don't want to take my dress to two different places. Does this cost make sense to anyone? Any suggestions?

David’s alterations are highway robbery. They charge through the nose just to sew on a single button, never mind shortening or adding anything.

Skip them and take the dress elsewhere to a local independent seamstress that you can find via Google.

Yes, David's is known to over-charge on alterations. Go find an independent tailor or seamstress.

I went to a local/independent seamstress, and had my dress taken in/adjusted a little at the (high) neckline and sides, a small adjustment near the armpit of my sleeves, and a 7-point bustle (my train is huge!) for $225.

That’s way high. I would find another seamstress that can do it all.

That is insane. If your wedding was in the next four weeks, I could understand the high price, or if it was a designer gown with intricate detailing on fine lace.

Even though David's "guarantees" your gown if something goes wrong, this is far too much. You are paying for close to 2/3 of what your dress cost.

Definitely do your research and go to a reputable seamstress or tailor. Whomever is quoting you at this David's Bridal seems shady.

I don't know about the prices cause I live in Australia but I just wanted to say that's a very pretty dress Smiley smile.

I want to echo others - that seems VERY high. I am using the seamstress at the bridal boutique I used to remove the long train / add straps/ take in all over and hem and they have only quoted $795 so far . I would not feel comfortable with the quote you have.

That seems awfully high I have two dresses and one is being altered for $500 and the other is being altered for $700 with a seven point bustle and some major work being done. I think you can do better by finding a seamstress in your area that specializes in alterations but doesn’t price gouge.

I would think that is too high like we already spent high numbers on the dress. And I would think that the alternation would have been less. Now see that I am skeptical to take it back the them because wanted to take up my dress them an inch and the same for my bridal party. Now I am thinking twice about it.

Do any of the individuals that have replied to this article sew? I am a tailor/seamstress and my specialty is bridal gowns. I do not work on any other garments. The waist being taken in means the dress must be taken apart and each layer altered and then reattached. Hours of work. I agree with the fact that David's bridal may not be the best place to have your gown altered (it has nothing to do with the cost and everything to do with the number of repairs I have personally made to dresses that have been altered by the local David's bridal store), but the other amounts that are being quoted in this article are not even close to an actual bridal gown alterations cost. Do you want the work done right, professionally? Bridal gown alterations range in time from 8-15 hours or more depending on the gown. You will be paying your seamstress for their time. Remember, you get what you pay for...

Maybe the general concern is that David's Bridal has an alterations staff rather than a named person with a specific reputation. Of course that would apply to many bridal boutiques who provide alterations services.
