Date advice.

Emily, on December 4, 2019 at 3:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Hey there -

I need some major advice. My brain is absolutely going crazy. My fiancé and I cannot decide on a date. I would love to get married the sooner the better. We can either get married in October 2020 and have an indoor wedding at a relatively cheap venue $1200 or wait until May 2021 and have an outdoor wedding at a venue for $1800
I would love to have an outdoor wedding in October but since we are on a budget, that $600 difference is really what holding us back. Money matters here.
What would you guys do? Wait until May to have that perfect outdoor wedding or get married in October? Lol. Can’t seem to decide myself. Any advice in waiting and longer engagements?

Would you regret not having an outdoor wedding later on? This is such a personal decision. I would definitely toy with that in your head, in 10 years are you going to wish you had waited that bit of extra time to have your dream wedding? If not, then go ahead and do October! But, either way its not a super long wait time and having a few more months will allow you extra time to get everything done and to save up!

One thing I would take into consideration is how May weather is where you live. If it rains a lot in May, will it be worth it to have the outdoor venue?

Honestly, if you decide for the May wedding, you have more than enough time to make up an extra $600.

Outdoor weddings are huge pain in the butt to plan for (as well as for guests - bugs, sun, sweat, cold, wind, rain, etc). I think if you would rather be married sooner than later, i'd go for the more affordable indoor venue.

By the time we get married, we’ll have had a 23 month engagement. We pushed it back due to some family scheduling issues and it really messed with me. No part of me wanted to plan and I was really upset. Fast forward to about 16 months out and I am SO happy we decided to have a long engagement. Not only did we get to increase our budget quite a bit, but I never have to stress about wedding planning. Plus we have locked in all of the 2019/2020 prices🤗

If getting married outdoors is your dream, then go for May.

I always envisioned myself getting married outdoors.

That way you can lock down all your dates with no pressure.

We didn't plan to have a very long engagement, but since we got engaged in late August we haven't had any time to do real planning. Our tentative date is mid July 2020, and any date after that is rainy season until January 2021.

We're going to look at a venue this weekend which will allow for an outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception.

$600 is easily attainable to save in 2 years even 1 year tbh.. I don't think it's a matter of budget here (with the differential between the two I mean), but rather what's your timeline for your future looks like and what wedding atmosphere is your preference. Our wedding year depended on our future wants for starting a family and what we want to accomplish before then.

If it rains in May, then you waited for no reason. I myself would have loved an outdoor wedding, but the stress of not being able to control the weather kept us from having one. I am happy with my indoor wedding decision. If the weather is nice, we will have a bunch of outdoor pictures anyways!

If you wanted to be married sooner, go with the October date! You marry your fiance quicker and you save money without having to stress about the weather!
