Dancing with both parents?

Bailey, on September 27, 2022 at 10:42 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

My parents are not separated/divorced, but I have such an amazing relationship with both of them that I want to dance with my mom, too. I suppose I'd cut each song [1 for dad, 1 for mom] at 2-2.5 minutes each so it isn't too long, but has anyone ever done this? Or have you been to a wedding where they did this? Do you think it's unneccesary?

Tbh it's probably going to be an emotional surprise for my mom and I guess I want to know if it's odd putting that much out there?

Could you dance with both of them at the same time? It can be a fun dance, there's no rule saying you need a 2-person slow dance.

Not a bad idea! However, I have a fun song for my dad and a more emotional one for my mom. they're a bit traditional so I'm not sure they would know what to do if all three of us were on the dancefloor Smiley xd

I think that is a great idea. You are celebrating families on that day. It is great to celebrate what you have with your parents while you celebrate being a new family. Love it.

I'd ask your mom if she'd be ok with that. I had a cousin who did a father/ daughter dance and a mother/ daughter dance, but when I asked my mom she said it wasn't something she'd be comfortable with. If your mom does want to do a dance, then I say go for it!

I feel similarly but my mom does not like to be the center of attention. I think of it this way" I got to honor my mom at my bridal shower and have that special moment, plus getting ready the morning of the wedding, with her. My dad's recognition is more "public" with walking me down the aisle as well as the father/daughter dance, but I am finding ways to honor them both on my special day.

It's super nice that you want to honor your mom too! If you know she'd like to do a dance with you, go for it!

My cousin did this at her wedding. She started the song dancing with her father, then her mom ran onto the dance floor and “cut in”. It was really cute.

This is something I'd really like to do, for the same reasons, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make it happen. Those above who suggested splitting the song in half, and dancing with each parent-- that's an awesome idea. I think the "cutting in" is so cute. Unfortunately, I know my dad would take offense. My parents are mostly fine with one another these days, but I just know my dad would take it as an infringement on something that supposed to be reserved for him Smiley atonished

My DJ suggested having a mother/daughter dance but not announcing it-- as in, he'll play a song that my mom and I know is for us, but we won't clear the dance floor, we'll just know that's our time. I think that's what I'm going to do. My mom was not expecting a dance-- she was surprised when I brought it up-- so the difference won't bother her.
