Dancing on a cloud

Brittney , on September 28, 2018 at 2:04 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
For me and my fiancé’s first dance we really want to have the “dancing on a cloud” effect. How do we get that? We need help.

Talk to your DJ or whoever does lighting (usually dj) they should be able to help.

Dry ice or a smoke machine probably. Your DJ should be able to help, a lot of them offer that option for an added fee! But check with your venue on if that is even allowed. My venue doesn’t allow smoke machines or dry ice at any of their reception spaces.

I’ve seen DJs that offer smoke machines but I personally wouldn’t do this because I know it can cause a lot of people to have breathing issues.

    Hey there, Brittney!!!

The previous posters gave some awesome suggestions! If you're hiring a DJ, they usually can set it up. Another idea is getting a fog machine (if your venue allows this)! You could even wait for them to go on sale at the end of the Halloween season Smiley smile

What style venue did you book? I'd love to hear about it!

Yeah smoke machines work but they might also mess up your pics.

We are doing this with a simple party city fog machine. Just test out the setting that will keep it low enough that it doesn't overwhelm you for photos

A regular fog machine won’t create that effect where the fog hangs really close to the ground - it will fill the air, not create a low lying fog. If you want that cloud effect, you need either cooled smoke (which is often called low fog) or dry ice, both of which have problems - cooled smoke leaves a slippery residue on the floor from the fluid used to make the fog, and dry ice can leave water on the floor (also slippery!). And dry ice is difficult to handle so you need someone who knows what they’re doing, plus it needs large tubs of hot water. Plus, check with your venue as low fog can and does set off smoke detectors (as it warms up, it rises) and obviously you don’t want that mid-first dance!

(I am a theatre technician who has spent a lot of time dealing with smoke machines, low fog machines and dry ice).

Our dj does it w/ dry ice. We’re doing it as well. I agree, the fog machine is a potential breathing hazard & might ruin pics. Just make sure a professional handles it, bc even dry ice has to be wiped away a soon as it dissipates bc it can be a slip hazard depending on the type of floor.

Hi Brittney! This is such a beautiful idea for your first dance! Did you ever find a DJ who is able to help you have this effect during your first dance?
