Dancing! How much time?

Stephanie, on April 8, 2018 at 4:08 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
I'm trying to do my timeline and am very confused. How much time are you allowing for dancing? FH and I agree one of the most important things is a great party at the reception. I'm not sure how much time we should allow for a great party! Thanks y'all!

We will have normal dancing from 8-11 then an after party with an edm DJ for some crazy dancing 11-1... my group likes to dance. Feel out what your guest list likes and go from there. I’d say 3 hours for an evening wedding is standard for dancing. (Just my experience)

I'm probably on the shorter side. We are a ways out but it's looking like 7:15-9:30 will be our dancing time because we only have the DJ for five hours, including the ceremony.

Our dancing will be 3 hours. We have a 4 hour bar package. The cocktail hour takes up 1 of those hours. The bar closes for dinner (we have wine on the tables during dinner and this is standard in most venues in my area). Then the bar reopens for dancing for 3 hours after dinner. We have the option of adding an additional hour, but would also have to have the DJ an extra hour as well as both music and bar have to end at the same time. I think 3 hours is plenty!

Our dancing started after dinner and the cake cutting. We began the dancing with our first dance and then invited everyone to join us about 30 seconds later. The floor officially opened for dancing after that from 8-11 p.m.

We’ll end up with about 3.5 hours for dancing, including the first dance and parent dances.

Ours is about four hours 7-11. Our bar has to close an hour early due to the venue rules which sucks so we made the reception as long as possible.

9pm-12am for just dancing. Expecting spotlight dances to take up about ten minutes or so between three dances. The dances will only be 1.5-2 minutes long max. But of course there are transitions between each dance etc. cake cutting will be done earlier, and we aren’t doing any tosses
