Dancing during dinner?

MeowBrides, on February 7, 2015 at 12:38 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Hi, any thoughts on incorporating dancing into the reception before dinner is over? My band is really pushing me to consider a timeline that includes a dance set of 2-3 upbeat songs to get the energy flowing before the first course is served (following the bride/groom entrance and first dance) and then another set of 2-3 songs to get everyone up and moving before the main entree (following the father/daughter dance). Has anyone been to a wedding where there was dancing before or during the dinner courses? We have an hour+ cocktail hour before, if that makes a difference, with heavy apps and open bar. Even so, this is new to me and I'm worried that guests will either be annoyed to have dinner broken up or confused about what they're supposed to do, or both. Thank you in advance for your thoughts!

We aren't doing it that way, dancing after dinner however my fsil did only their first dance song as soon as they were introduced to the reception which was nice but they didn't have a bp!

I would be irritated moving as a guest having it all broken up that way In my opiniob

Sorry I don't know much about this. We had our wedding party dance in to the reception then DH and I danced in to a different song and we all scattered and grabbed all of our guests to finish dancing the song out with us. Then we had the bride and groom dance, father daughter dance, mother son dance and then dinner. During dinner our DJ played top 40ish love songs that were nice to listen to and maybe even sing along to (i.e. not too slow) but not necessarily songs you would dance to. Good luck!

As a guest, I would be confused on what to do in that scenario....

I wouldnt be against a couple of songs before food is served, but i think its strange to do inbetween courses. Surely just some easy listening in the background is sufficient? Smiley smile

We may do our first dance right before dinner, but no other dancing. We it'll flow better that way.

That happens at every wedding here; first dance, everyone joins in, a few kick ass dance songs, quiet it down a bit, do toasts and family dances sometimes later. Personally, I love it and if it's a good DJ, the dance floor will be packed from beginning to end, with lower energy songs woven in when the co courses are served.

It's way fun, it creates a party atmosphere, and frankly, after the cocktail hours here, no one is starving. The've been sitting and eating and talking for an hour or an hour and a half. Go for it!

Totally do it!!!!!! Our wedding will go like this.. We make our grand entrance.. Have our first dance.. Towards the end of the song the MC says "the couple wants everyone on the dance floor to join them, every couple that comes out is a year of good luck" so obviously everyone comes out.... And then at the end of the song the MC says "and the party starts now!" And BAM the fun club music comes on and we are in full dance mode within 5 minutes of the reception. It's great! And then when food comes out the music will slow down and everyone will eat. Don't waste all that time before food comes out just sitting.

Just my thoughts and how I personally like it. Smiley smile

My brother did that at his wedding and it was awesome ....best wedding I've ever been too. It was nice to move around instead of sitting for the gluttony of a five course meal all at once .If I was having a big wedding with a band I would definitely do it.

The only wedding I've been to where we danced before dinner was at a wedding where the dinner service got messed up lol. They started the dancing to give us something to do while we waited for dinner to be served (wasn't served til almost 9:30!!). We will be doing our first dance right after our entrance but I think guests dancing before dinner is awkward.
