Dancing at a 4 hour daytime reception?

A.Magill.Since.May, on April 17, 2017 at 8:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

So we have daytime wedding 11:00-3:30/4 with a DJ, a full meal (brunchy stuff), and a beer and wine bar. FH and I feel awkward about the dances and aren't sure if we should do them, especially because given our crowd and the time of day we don't think anyone will really want to dance... I don't want people to get bored and leave early without dancing, but I don't wanna set up like an awkward dance party vibe that no one wants to participate in...

I think you could have nice causal dancing. It doesn't have to a club/party vibe.

However I do feel that having the couple start the dance helps to give the guests the 'OK' to dance as well...

What type of music would you recommend for that? The DJ wants to know the "feel" we want, and all about the songs we want. We decided we'll wait until next year to send in our music request stuff, because music changes so much in a year lol

I went to a daytime wedding once (ceremony was at 11). Lots of drinking and dancing was involved!

Motown and other classic rock and roll (50s/60s) is always a good vibe for spanning cocktails and dancing, along with some more contemporary hits.

It's always a good time to dance. Smiley smile.

Food, drinks, laughter, and music .... perfect recipe for some dancing!

Motown would be great to get all the love birds out on the floor ... especially AL Green. Then speed up the tempo with each song.

I've told FH that we're playing the Chicken Dance at our reception and he has no say (step-daughter's request) if that won't get people in the dancing mood, I give up. Haha.
