Dance Lessons

Megan, on September 7, 2019 at 6:44 AM Posted in Community Conversations 2 32
Alright couples... who here took dance lessons before their wedding? 💃🏻

FH and I have been wanting to take dance lessons for the past 2 years or so and now that we have our wedding coming up, I finally feel like I can justify spending the money 💰 lol

Has anyone taken dance lessons for their wedding? Was it successful? Did you feel like it was worth it? How long did you take lessons for?

Thanks in advance for the feedback!! ☺️

It's always been a thought of ours for the past couple of years. We recently went to a wedding expo and won 2 free dance lessons, so we have those booked for the next 2 Fridays. The problem is our wedding is 3 Fridays from now and neither one of has much rhythm so I don't know how much this will help lol

We did, and if you have the money, I would highly recommend it! We took 5 lessons and finally got our routine down at the last one. Now we just have to keep practicing. our guests seem really excited to see our dance next month. It was also a really fun experience to have together. We would often show up to our lesson super grumpy after work, but we always left laughing and super happy.

🙋🏼‍♀️ So worth it! We took 3 lessons and it helped us figure out a simple dance that isn’t choreographed, but looks really good.

We just had our first lesson yesterday and I think it’s definitely worth it even as a fun scheduled date.
The school we chose has paid private lessons and you can choose to go to group gatherings to get used to dancing with other people around and that might help us at least more than anything else.

We have been taking dancing classes since the end of March - we took a 15 lesson package. We’ve had our routine down for a few weeks & we are just practicing it. In a few weeks we are going to perform it at a group dance in front of everyone for practice of having everyone watch us. If the money is in the budget - I would recommend.

That’s what we’re aiming for, like a fun date night! But with the added benefit of learning to dance!

That was the same for us, the teacher was able to show us how to string moves together, and how we can communicate what’s next. It isn’t choreographed, but in general we know box steps, a “party trick”, some twirls, and how to do a dip at the end

We are taking them now. Totally worth it, but pricey. I wish it wasn't so expensive because we'd continue doing it just for fun.

It was totally necessary and the first dance was one of my FH biggest must haves. So, I wanted us to look good and make it special. He's an aggressive dancer in that he will toss me around and totally take away my autonomy as I have a panic attack internally. Now he is learning how to slow down and communicate without words. It's a blessing honestly lol. I didn't want to be injured at my wedding.

We're taking lessons for our wedding, but I've been ballroom dancing for 8 years just for fun so I know what I'm doing and could learn the choreography instantly. I'm not a good teacher at it though so my instructors are guiding my FH. He's not that great yet, but he's getting better. Though my instructors and I keep brainstorming ways to have my FH stand there and let me do all the work. I also had a coaching in June with an ex-DWTS pro, and if anyone knows how to give pointers in dancing at a more advanced level than your partner, but still looking good, it'd be her.

LMAO Jennifer “I didn’t want to be injured at my wedding” 😂 i agree that wouldn’t be too cool. That would be the biggest party foul. Haha tell FH to cool his jets 😜

We did! We had both always wanted to take dance lessons so we could go out to dance clubs and know what we're doing but the Time or the money never came up. the wedding was the perfect excuse to get started. Now the studio we went to doesn't teach just one type of dance at a time so we ended up taking their starter pack of six private lessons and six group lessons, and we learned the basics of foxtrot, waltz, rumba, tango and swing. After that we loved it so much that we signed up for another set to really nail the basics of those down with another 20 classes and we just signed up for their bronze level classes now. If we continuenkn this path we could compete in amateur competitions if we wanted. We have lived every minute of it and are really excited to show our new skills off at the wedding. Not just for our first dance which is only loosely choreographed but with the music for the rest of the night. We have a whole repertoire of dances we can do to many different styles of music and we feel our investment was worth it because we will continue to use this far after the wedding.

Thanks!! This is like exactly what I want. I’m hoping we’ll love it and be able to keep it up! It sounds like you found a really great studio! Have fun with your dancing, it sounds like you’re going to have a fantastic time at your wedding!!

thats another thing. I want to have fun dancing, and I feel like I would have more fun if I knew a little more about what I’m doing.

My FH is a ballroom dance teacher! Yes yes yes, do it! It usually takes about 6 or so lessons to go from knowing nothing to being comfortable on your wedding day. It’s also a great bonding activity! Message me if you have specific questions!

OMG thank you so much!! You’re like the perfect person to ask. This dance teacher we talked to made it seem like we would need at least 6 months of lessons....and I nixed that cus THATS not in the budget. But what your FH says sounds much more reasonable. We’d be willing to do lessons for a bit of time, but 6 months is intense.
