Dance Lessons for First Dance

Jennifer, on September 26, 2021 at 11:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 13
My fiancé is super shy and does not dance at all. I was totally fine with just doing the middle school sway haha, but he’s the one that actually wants to do a choreographed first dance to Lee Brice’s “I Don’t Dance”. He thinks the guests would get a kick out of it because it is so him and also it would surprise everyone! For those that did this, how many sessions did you do and how early did you do them? Also, I just want to add that this is literally one of the sweetest things he’s suggested. Nearly made me cry when he told me about it 😭

Awesome! Haha so… I’m 4’10” and he’s 6’3”. I think we will probably need an instructor to make sure the moves doesn’t make it look too awkward with our huge height difference 🤣

We didn’t do a choreographed first dance, but took some lessons just so we wouldn’t look ridiculous haha. We got an introductory special at Fred Astaire for 2 lessons for $75. That was perfect for what we needed, plus practicing at home. The 6- and 12-lesson packages were REALLY expensive (like $800 for 6 lessons).

Start early as possible! We did this and my fiance is the same way and he took quite a lot of sessions.

H and I did 3 lessons within the last 2 weeks before our wedding - I wouldn't recommend waiting as long as we did to start them lol Smiley ups but we also didn't want to risk forgetting everything we learned! If we did it over again, we would've started them 2-3 months before the wedding with a lesson maybe every other week or so. We also didn't do any intense choreography, just basic moves.

Awesome! We may also do this. 2-3 months seems like a good time. I’m also concerned about forgetting haha

I happen to catch your post. I would say just if anything just have fun with it and enjoy the process. Even if you mess up its like Karaoke everyone knows we aren't professional but the fact that they may see your Hubby who doesn't typically dance try to bust a move then the crowd would be enjoying regardless of few mess ups if they occur. I for one love genuine moments versus stiff and rigid forced moments for video or photo purposes. Take care and good luck.

This is so sweet!! My fiancé and I have our first lessons tomorrow as well! He said he would pay for a package so we can learn to dance and it made my heart melt as well!! We are just under 7 months out and I am wondering if that is too far out

It could be fine if you guys practice every week or something even after the lessons. I’m afraid we’ll forget if we do it too early. We are planning to start the lessons 3 months out, but I’ll probably start researching for studios/instructors like 6 months out

That makes sense to me, we can practice on our own as well. I don’t want to forget either
