Dance for all married couples- Who has been married longest?

Erin, on January 30, 2017 at 4:13 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 52

I saw this at a wedding I was babysitting at (I wasn't actually a guest, and was only there for about 15 mins to pick up the kids and take them home, so I was glad I saw it). DJ called all married couples to the dance floor and he called out an amount of time that people had been married, and people had to sit down when their amount of time was passed (been married less than 24 hours, 1 year, 3 years, etc). I would love to do this to show our respects to all three sets of our grandparents who have all been married for 50 years. Anyone ever seen this? Any good songs to choose for this dance? I have no idea what a good song for this would be!

I've seen this before. Normally its an older slow dance. Maybe Sinatra or Frankie Valli

Yes, we did it. Its an anniversary dance.

We used the song, Your my best friend by Tim McGraw. Which is my sisters/BM wedding song.

Thanks for giving a name to it @OGKathryn! I was trying to explain it to my mom and she was so confused. Maybe with a name it will make more sense

I've seen this before and wanted to do it because it is so sweet. I had second thoughts, and posted that on here. If your grandparents are all alive and kicking, it will be incredibly sweet. In my case, it would be a sad reminder to the ones recently left behind.

I love the idea. And speaking of wedding anniversaries, today is my 35th.

I have seen this before. I thought it was cute, but another guest at the table said the dance was "disrespectful" to those with spouses who passed away, those who are in same-sex relationships and (at the time) unable to get legally married, those who divorced and re-married.... This lady literally kept talking about it throughout the whole anniversary dance, kept going on and on about how it was a slap in the face to some guests. Bottom line, it can be taken poorly by some people.

    ETA Congratulations @Centerpiece!

Yes ! The anniversary dance. We are doing this instead of a garter /bouquer toss. Which ever couple has been married the longest gets the bouquet Smiley smile

I'm doing this in lieu of the garter/bouquet toss. I'm thinking about using Leather and Lace by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley.

Kenny Rogers "Through the years" is a favorite for this dance here in the midwest. LOL... we are one couple away from being the last ones dancing, but we love our friends and are happy to let them have the honor on a regular basis.

    @Centerpiece happy anniversary!

@Liz solid point.. I don't think we would have anyone in our crowd that would be upset however, we have been pretty fortunate in that way.

Sinatra is a great idea! What about Etta James "At Last"?

I think this is sweet, and I like Through the Years for it.

We didn't do it because neither of us have grandparents, nobody was very old at our wedding.

We are dancing to the instrumental version of 1000 years for our first dance, and the version with lyrics for the anniversary dance. I think my grandparents will win, with 62 years of marriage under their belts.

Yeah, we are doing this as well, the anniversary dance. I think we might do "you're still the one" by shania twain. not sure yet though.

This is one of my favorite traditions! We'll use something older, but I haven't decided what yet. Just something slow and sweet will work!

Congratulations The Centerpiece Flowers!! We are doing this at our wedding instead of a garter/bouquet toss. I think we will have some 50+ year couples. I'm so excited!
