Dance Floors & Covid Regulations

Kimberly, on December 18, 2020 at 10:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hi Brides and Grooms Smiley smile

I live in NJ and right now dance floors are closed. My wedding is at the end of July 2021...do you guys think dance floors will be allowed by then (maybe at least on a limited capacity?). Anyone else stressing about this kind of unknown with this timeline?

What ideas does everyone have to keep their wedding fun and engaging if there is no dancing?

Thanks!!!!

Lawn games are always a fun way to entertain and engage guests without dancing!

Corn Hole, giant jenga, giant tic-tac-toe, horseshoes...the list is endless! You could even have tables with board games set up for guests that are interested in that! Another option that I've seen on these forums are quizzes/triva about the bride and groom!

If your guests are into it, karaoke is a fun option as well!

I’m july 31,2021 on Long Island so I feel your pin. Ideas mentioned above I agree with and I have also seen people do a wine and beer tasting, upgrade photo booths, have tarot card readers or caricature artists. My brother went to a wedding and they said there were so many activities and stuff the wedding flew by and no one really remembered the dancing. We will figure it out!

Unfortunately, it is really hard to say what regulations will be in place seven months from now especially because everything is changing all of the time. My husband is from NJ and his friends and family have said the governor there is pretty strict on Covid. We live in MD and I'm currently pregnant with our first child and my OB recently told me that she believes the restrictions will remain in place through the summer if not longer. As for other forms of entertainment, you could have games set up at each table for your guests to play. We just had our gender reveal last weekend with thirteen people and we played Uno, Pit, and Spot It and we had a ton of fun. We got married pre-Covid and we played a trivia game with our guests where they had to see how well they knew us. The last ten people got a prize. The shoe game is also another popular option. You could also hire a magician or comedian to provide entertainment for your guests. I saw that karaoke was mentioned and I know our DJ gave us a mic to pass around during one of the songs at our wedding and it was fun.

You never know if it'll be open or not by July. Many people are doing games, trivia to keep guests entertained

So, the NJ government put out a plan today that aims for 70% vaccination by June.

That's considered "herd" for COVID, which means things in the summer may look SO different than today.

NOW, that said, none of that is guaranteed.

Still, I think July will look very different, and while I strongly recommend a Plan B, as well as non dancing activities... July you might just be ok.

Thanks, Rebecca! Where did you find that about the 70% by June? I've been trying to find it on Google but I'm not coming up with anything. Can you point me in the right direction?

I found it on the Philadelphia Inquirer, but I'd suggest looking into Gov. Murphy's press releases.

    Hi Kimberly!

June 26th 2021 bride here and YES! A lot of unknowns and butterflies trying to get through all of this pandemic stress. I'm hopeful with the vaccine rolling out things will be more stables and numbers will go down. However with the summertime and people starting to get out and move around we might have another spike. I'm staying hopeful and have cut my guest list to 30 people to keep it safe.

Really? I am in NJ and we went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago with a dance floor. I had no idea it's not allowed. My venue hasn't mentioned that to me at all.

If it helps, we were married in August in PA and only significant dances were allowed (ex: first dance, father/daughter). It turned out great!! We kept majority of the music light, romantic style. We added a speech and two significant dances. Surprisingly no one missed it and enjoyed the bar and outdoor scenery instead. In PA our regulations tend to be less strict then NJ. At that time the limit was 250 guests outdoors only and significant dances. 25 guests allowed indoors at that time. Hope this helps!! ❤️

Kimberly, closed regardless of capacity? I pray by July this will be a much better situation. My wedding is September. I’m nervous, we are all nervous.
