Dance Floor

Heather, on July 12, 2019 at 8:11 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

I am having an outdoor wedding. We originally planned to get a dance floor, but our wedding venue is 3 hours away from us. Having one delivered is super expensive. We were just going to make our own, but we're not sure how to get it to the venue. My fiance says we should just rope of an area for dancing and have no dance floor. Any thoughts?

Unless you have carpentry experience and a big truck or someone willing to bring something like a u-haul, I'd probably recommend against building your own dance floor. What's your venue like? Is there solid flooring anywhere? Is it all grass? Is it level? I think designating an area for dancing could be ok, but I'd probably try to do something a little more open than just roping it off - maybe a few signs, or some raised flower arrangements to make a loose boundary?

It's all grass and there is a big level area. I like the idea of a flower border. My concern with the grass though is that first off my dress will probably get ruined (only wearing it once though so I guess that's not a huge deal). Second, I'm worried about people being barefoot and stepping on things or even maybe hitting a slightly uneven spot and rolling their ankle or something. Am I just worrying too much?

I wouldn't do that. If it rains, it could be a mess. Are there rental companies in the area of your wedding?

Idk it could be cute or a disaster. I'd be unhappy if I attended a wedding and got all muddy or hurt myself. I feel like there's probably room in the budget somewhere. Idk if you've bought your dress yet but you could use less money there. Less money on decor or flowers maybe. There are ways to save but minimizing your guests experience shouldn't be one of them. Hopefully someone on here has a solution that fits in your budget!

I agree it could be cute... Or a disaster. Especially with heels sinking into the grass.
If you look at cheap party supply rental places they may be cheaper than ya think

I think having solid ground to dance on is really important. Every wedding I’ve been to on grass has had a proper dance floor and it’s been a godsend— one grassy wedding I had to ditch my heels and go barefoot and the other thankfully had flip flops available, but on both occasions I was unprepared and wore heels that sank into the ground and was pretty miserable walking around. I was SO glad to have a solid surface to dance on! Without it I probably wouldn’t have danced

Have a friend or family member with a truck? I'd rent one, buy one, build one and put it in a truck bed if possible. Or you could use that green indoor/outdoor carpet to cover the dance area. Again if you can find a way to transport it.
If the grass is mushy, without some covering people probably won't dance.
