Dance floor lights or not?

Nessa, on May 30, 2017 at 11:16 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

My social circle is big on dancing so I've only ever been to weddings with heavy dance floor lighting. But, we're trying to save some money here, if we can.

Has anyone opted out of these or attended a wedding without them? Do you feel it dulled the energy/ambiance?

Here is a picture of our venue for reference. The chandeliers will be dimmed during dancing.

Reception is 3:30 - 7:30 and sunsets at 5:30pm.

I love your venue. Will he have any light? I know our dj just includes some with our package. I think If the dj can play the crowd and he's good at it then you don't need a ton of lights. Maybe a few

Our dj had 3 sets of lights on stands and it really enhanced the ambience of the evening. The lights were part of the package.

Omg I love your venue and view! Our DJ has some lights included in the standard package and an option to include up lighting. Curious to see other responses.

We opted out and our dance floor still had people on it all night. I think the lights would be an overkill with a view like that.

We did not add lighting to our venue but the DJ threw it in on the day of and it did make a difference in atmosphere and we weren't even dancing people.

Thanks all! When we booked him, he was just over budget and we were able to work it out without the lights and a few other factors.

Maybe we'll wait until closer to date and see how our budget is looking. I can probably have him add it even a few days before if I want to.

We choose to only do some of the lighting our DJ offered and not others. This was mainly because he had strobe lights on the list of lighting and for safety and health reasons of my guest I didn't feel safe having strobe lights. I also felt they were more School dance then wedding. Try talking to the DJ again he may let you add some of the lights to the package with out raising the price by to much.

You can check with your DJ as well to see if they will do any type of custom packages to include some lighting but not all or provide you some less expensive options that may work for you. We were having the same question and were just going to add some dance floor lighting for a much lesser price but after seeing the DJ at an open house at the venue we realized we should upgrade because of how big the reception room was, the smaller lighting wouldn't have done anything.

Curious—where is this venue? I'm looking for something similar in Colorado Smiley smile

I'm thinking if I get something like this, I may spend the $$ on edison-style lightbulbs strung everywhere for lighting. But we'll see.
