CYS Boudoir Photography: is it a scam?

#mattsmrs18, on August 6, 2016 at 1:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 18

At one of the bridal expos I went to in June I entered to win a boudoir shoot. Well, a couple of weeks ago I received an email saying that I was one of the second place prize winners wining $564 worth of products and a shoot BUT I have to give them $50 as a deposit on the shoot. This business claims to be nationwide but I haven't heard of them outside of the expo, and I'm also wondering if I actually won something or if this is just another scam.

If you won...why do you have to pay anything

You shouldn't have to pay if you won a "completely free luxe photoshoot".

Yeah this is a scam. My bridal party and I attended a bridal expo and we all got the same generic email from them saying we won. I just deleted it. If someone is claiming you won something, then you shouldn't have to pay anything!

Thanks ladies! I thought it probably was a scam, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't mistaken!

This is definitely a scam. I'm still getting these emails and the expo the reference was 4 months ago

It's not a scam. The $50 deposit is basically there to hold you to your word that you will show up for your photo shoot. The company has to pay to send the photographer to your chosen city and put them up in the nice hotel where you will take your photos. They just want to make sure you actually show; putting up a small deposit usually helps that. That $50 then becomes a photo credit that you can use to purchase more than the one image that is with the package. I also won the same package in January, had my shoot on March 2, and my viewing and ordering session on March 20. The photographer and the consultant for ordering were both amazing.

I got them same thing but I also received it in the mail as well... Given that they don't do hair and makeup and their prices are ridiculous I ignored it. I recently set up one that had a great special going on and they handle makeup and hair in the studio plus also give great tips for what to wear and where to find the best outfits.

It’s not a scam-they’re at the expo and we signed up for it just for fun. I did my photo shoot and the lady was very professional. Now just waiting for my viewing session-worried about the pricing tho. I just want my free 5x7 and maybe an image if it’s that good

For all those beautiful blushing brides to be... I just had my photo shoot today and it was the best experience ever. Back in early December 2018, I received an email and letter in the mail about having won a bourdoir photoshoot with CYS. I was hesitant at first because I didn’t want to spend $50 if it was a scam. I did my own makeup and hair and went to the photo shoot with my outfits. My photographer, Alina, was amazing. She had seven years of experience and really did everything to make me feel beautiful and most importantly sexy. She walked me through the poses and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. My wife to be also came along and was allowed up into the room. What an experience! I would recommend it to everyone... Hell, my wife to be wants to book an appointment in the near future. I’ll update with information about my pictures!

I keep seeing that this is a scam and is not. I signed for one at a wedding show. From my research, they didn't say there was a price and said it was free. Let me know your experience.

Update: Just finished my viewing session and I am so pleased. My fiancé and I had discussed just getting the digital images and whatever came in our free package. Out of the 92 images, we ended up selecting 7 gorgeous images with 2 having premium retouching for stray hairs and an outfit touch up. The $50 holding deposit ended up being image credit and we ended up spending $564. Honestly, we are both pleased because we were expecting it to be so much more.

So, then it isn't actually free? Someone said it isn't a scam, but then said they paid nearly 600 bucks. I received an email saying I won a free session, but 600 bucks doesn't sound free to me, so... Anyone know what's up with it?

I "won" this too. The photoshoot is legit, but like most "free" things, it is not actually free. I had to pay a $25 deposit which went toward image credit. The shoot was really fun and I enjoyed it. I also asked for a price list beforehand. They sent it to me and everything on there is pretty expensive... And that doesn't include purchasing the right to the copyright of the images. It is very pricey. There is a range from $129 for 1 image to $69 per images for 30+ images. Ridiculous.

But I did win 2 images free with prints and had $100 in booking credit, so I just got those 2 and 1 image and paid shipping. Lol. It is what you make of it.

I’m going to tell you that they charge over $2000 for the most basic of things.
