Cutting the guest list? Postponing?

Molly, on April 24, 2020 at 9:46 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9
Our wedding is on August 7th, 2020. We are planning to get married that day regardless, even if it means parents and siblings only and having a reception later.

Right now we are still going forward with our wedding plans as normal. Has anyone started cutting their guests lists yet? We sent “save the dates” to 175 people but I’m not that optimistic for August. Should we be planning to cut the list down to immediate family and best friends only and try to get it down to 50? I feel so rude for “uninviting” people but it’s out of our control. 😔

My wedding day is December 12th. I’m waiting until last minute to decide. Truthfully, I wouldn’t do any of that yet. I would have a plan b, but not decide on that until a month or 2 before. There is still some time for things to change. Good luck!!😊

What state are you in? Our state (Missouri) is starting to open back up May 4th.

I’m in Southern IL, about 30 mins outside of St. Louis. Our state is sheltering in place until the end of May. STL is sheltering in place until mid may and then re-evaluating. Ugh this has been so difficult.

Yeah I’m in KC area and they are starting to open businesses up May 4th. I wonder if St. Louis had a bigger outbreak than us?

I'm in NC, and while we may start opening back up in May, in a best case scenario it sounded like beginning of July would be when things could get back to "normal". They also said if they see spikes they will revert back to prior stages with stricter measures. Even when states open back up, it doesn't mean they are going to allow 175 person events right away (not even sure if the new normal would allow that). Something to consider.

I'm getting married 08/08 in California and I feel you.

Right now, we're planning on moving forward under the assumption that we're getting married at our planned venue. But we are in talks of doing a micro wedding with just parents + siblings if we need to postpone.

More than likely if we have to postpone, we'll still get officially married 08/08 with those immediate family members and then do the vow renewal the next year at our original venue (if the date is available) with all those that were initially invited to the wedding.

I ended up texting our venue owner this morning to touch base and fortunately she said she’d be extremely lenient in rescheduling if need be! We aren’t super stressed if anything we will just postpone to next spring
